W9NBC.. be careful

Post by KB0HNN »

Here was the ad on QTH:

Listing Number: 646688
Date Ad was Placed: 02/11/08
Name: STEVE MROTEK
Phone Number: 00000000000
Callsign: W9NBC
Category: RADIOHF
Heading: icom ic275a
Ad Message:
ICOM IC 275A TWO METER ALL MODE.RADIO IS NICE,HAVE FACTORY BOOK AND BOX.375 shipped

On the phone he informed me the rig was tested out on his buddies new service monitor and all was within spec.
The rig showed up packaged well, and in good shape. After turning the VFO knob the first time to get to 144.200, I knew there was something wrong with the VFO encoder. It has a dead zone when the finger dimple is between about noon and 3. I did a CPU reset, and also poped the cover to make sure none of the connectors came loose in shipping to no avail. I informed Steve and asked what he would do to resolve this, and here is the only reply:
the radio worked ok.i didnt use every little thing.i told you that on the phone.i used it on 144.350 only.73
So just be carefull, aparently a non working main tuning knob on a rig is just a little thing that he wouldn't use and or test.
