Help with FT-1000MP display flashing, no rcve/xmit??

Post by W4AJF »

Hi, all, I received in an FT-1000MP and upon power up the Main frequency display flashes in and out continuosly. You can change the frequency and change bands and most functions show up on the display when you push the button for it. There is NO receive or transmit. The MAIN receive BUSY light stays on all the time and the The RF Gain, when turned, does not affect the meter. Any help out there? I have of course reset the CPU but no luck.

Thanks,

Adam, I assume it was shipped to you? I hate to ship radios like this, they are so delicate. In any case, check all the flex circuits to make sure they are all seated especially around the front panel boards. If you have the manual you can follow the procedure to change it to +12V operation vs. 115Vac, this involves removing the top and bottom covers, then remove the two upper screws holding the front panel and just losen the two bottom screws but don't remove them. and just flip the entire front panel assy. out and downward toward the front. You will see all the flex circuits connecting everything to the main radio chassis there. Make sure all these connectors are fully seated. At this point you can also disable the internal switching power supply and set it to use external 12-13.8VDC by moving that jumper if you want, this is highly recommended to save the internal power supply which is sometimes marginal. Also while you have the covers off, check all the other cables in the main chassis for the same things, but the problems are usually in that front panel assy. 73 es GL de W2CO http://home.comcast.net/~w2co

Hi Tom, thanks for the response, One of the first things I did was change it to the DC supply in hopes that the problem was there but same symptoms. I checked all the connections and they looked good so I am not sure what the problem is.

Thanks for trying. Still looking for help!
