I purchased a used Yaesu ATAS-120 and matching ATBK-100 from Bruce. After a short email exchange, I sent him the funds via PayPal and awaited for the items to arrive. He sent the FedEx tracking information as promised, so I would know when the items were to arrive.
The box was delivered by FedEx and I noticed that the stinger of the ATAS-120 was sticking out of the corner of the box, yet the box was taped closed. Inside I found the bent stinger and the ATBK-100, but not ATAS-120 antenna. Uh oh.
I initially thought that I was scammed, but this was incorrect. I reviewed the FedEx shipping label, and noticed that the weight of the box when it was dropped off at FedEx was a few pounds heavier than what I had received. It turns out FedEx mishandled the box, causing it to open, losing the ATAS-120. Someone then re-taped the box, leaving only the stinger and ATBK-100.
Upon emailing Bruce this information, he immediately issued a full credit for the items and said he would pursue the issue with FedEx. Unfortunately he only insured the shipment for the FedEx minimum, which was about $100, nowhere near the true value of the contents. I also pursued the issue with my local FedEx people and awaited their conclusion.
About a 10 days later, FedEx issued Bruce the $100 to partially compensate him for them losing the items. Since I still had the 2 items from the box, Bruce was fine waiting for the FedEx credit and we came to a conclusion on a price for the remaining items.
The bottom line is that Bruce trusted me that I hadn't lied to him on this transaction, he issued a credit immediately upon learning the problem and we both worked out a conclusion to this situation.
I won't hesitate to deal with him in the future and you can be assured of the same.
Other lessons learned, don't use FedEx to ship your packages, and always insure them for the full amount, or more.
