I have a Kenwood MC50 mic that I would like to re-wire for use on my TS680S. Can it be done? or is there an adaptor that I can purchase for it. I don't care wether the up/down function works. I never use it. TNX. WB8JBG

Hello Ed,
Well the Kenwood MC-50 Desktop Microphone is a High "Z" Impedance (50K) and the Kenwood TS-680S Transceiver Microphone Input is a Low "Z" Impedance (600 Ohm). This is a major audio Impedance mismatch!

CR45-715 audio xmfr 3/4x5/8x5/8" insulated wire 50K to 500 ohm $8.85
Wire the High "Z" Kenwood Microphone element to the High "Z" Primary windings (50K) and the Secondary windings to the Low "Z" (500 Ohm) output / radio microphone input. You could probably install the Audio Matching Transformer into the base of the microphone stand ultimately hiding it from view and preventing any wires from being broken off. This should solve the Audio Impedence "Z" Mismatch. You'll be required to purchase an Eight pin plug to match up with the TS-680S Transceiver Microphone Input. These 8-Pin Plugs should be readily available at Radio Shack, Amateur Electronic Supply , any other Amateur Radio supply store or On-line.
