I would like to bounce an idea off you guys. First of all let me go back 40 + years. In my home town we had a paper called Traders Weekly. In it, you could advertise about anything you wanted, however, the catch was, nothing was for sale, it must be traded. Now I am sure there was some cash trading places at times, but the idea was excellent. Now we are talking about mid 60’s here, and in the north woods of Michigan nobody had money for extras. I had been building 1 and 2 tube radios on a cigar box, (remember those ?) I often traded these for other toys or equipment.
I don’t know that Scott would be interested in trying this concept out, but I can’t help but wonder if it would work in today’s market. I have always loved trading as opposed to buying and selling. Why? Because I subscribe to the idea that, “One man’s Junk, Is another man’s Treasure”. As long as both parties come away from the deal happy, it doesn’t matter what the market value of the trade is.
Now I know a lot of guys list their “excess to my needs” for trade on a particular radio they want. That is fine, what I am referring to is an open mind concept. Example, Ham #1 in Ohio has a Treetop brand radio he doesn’t want, so he lists it. Over in Texas is ham #2 who has a pool stick but no pool table. So he offers ham #1 a pool stick for his Treetop radio. It just so happens ham #1 just bought a pool table. Bingo……a trade has happened.
Now I admit this was probably a lousy example, but I think you get the idea. One side benefit would be to get the border line postings like the one today for a flying chair in trade for hf gear. When I looked at the picture I thought the guy had a propeller coming out his bu** oops, I mean back. hi hi .
So how about it guys, what do you think? And Scott, your feedback is critical.
