Scammer Alert

Post by NNN0BVC »

Several weeks ago posted an ad looking for a Butternut HF5V antenna. Received a response from [email protected]. Turns out this was not Glenn K9TUT but an imposter using a false e-mail address. After sending the requested $300 via postal money order never got the antenna and never got a response from who I thought was K9TUT till I found another e-mail form Glenn and once he and I spoke on the phone I realized I was spammed. The Money Order was sent to Jeanne Victor at 41 Dodd Road Mansfield Center, CT 06250. I followed up with USPS, the check was cashed, and after that any e-mails to [email protected] went unanswered. Now I am out $300 and no antenna. You never think this can happen to you and bam there it is.

In answer to your question yes the response came back through QTH. com initially. Even had a picture of the unassembled antenna. Problem is I wanted the antenna so bad my gut instincts escaped me for a moment and here I am. The real ham whose call sign he used was a current fellow member of the 14.300 Maritime Mobile Service Net. I served 25 years as a Net Control (1972-1997) on that net so I immediately felt comfortable with the transaction. Stupid me. I'm in an antenna restricted neighborhood and really wanted an antenna like this, which of course my luck they stopped manufacturing.I was hoping to use it on the MARS transglobal net, oh well.
