Scammers are getting more "hip"

For reports of scammers using other people's callsigns. Remember that any callsigns listed in this forum are likely innocent bystanders (subjects of identity theft) and, thus, are probably not guilty of anything. For bad transactions with verified ham operators, use the Feedback Forum instead.

Scammers are getting more "hip"

Post by RussKW6T »

Not my first rodeo here on QTH, but this one got closer than any of the others. 4 of 5 replies to my want ad on QTH were met by scammers. Number 4 sent me a photo of the item I'm looking for. Still thinking it might be legit, I advised number 4 his email did not appear on QRZ, so I would not send any payment over paypal or similar sites. I advised number 4 I would only send to his FCC mailing address. Number 4 agreed, so we settled on a price. Number 4 now states he wants a gift card sent to his address and actually gives me the FCC address to mail it to; that was odd, but okay. Number 4 then sends an email kindly asking me to email photos of the receipt and both sides of the gift card. Arrrgh. I declined, but just for grins, I responded and offered a postal money order to the FCC address. Nothing further has been heard from number 4.
