Disappointing dealings with Lloyd Bennett W7SAO

Post by W1JCW »

I made a firm deal with Lloyd via a phone call and confirmed email to purchase an antenna he had.

I sent a MO promptly as promised, July 2nd after our deal was committed to on 6/30. With the holiday and PO workers being off during their many holiday breaks it took 8 actual working days for the MO to arrive at Lloyds qth.
Not my fault as I dont run the PO..

Usually that is fine with most as they understand the PO and the mail has
been getting slower these days. Not to mention I was in touch with him
daily either by phone or email.

All of this does not sound like I was jerking him around and with no intentions of sending payment. More so after we spoke often as I asked several questions about installation and operation not to mention ensured Lloyd the MO was in the mail on the date indicated.

After 5 days of speaking a week goes by and I do not hear from Lloyd. This worried me as I thought something happened to him, ill or other wise. I tried calling / emailing him as a concerned new ham friend to find out how he was as we spoke daily shooting the breeze and discussing the antenna.

I hear from Lloyd a week later, he was on vacation I was glad to hear. As we were in touch often as I previously indicated. I was surprised that I did not receive a phone call or email indicating " hey I am going on vacation and I have not received your check yet but it should be here Monday. I will ship the antenna when I get back.."

This is how it should of happened and what I would have done when I have a deal with anyone in the works and I leave town for 7 days.

Lloyd proceeds to explain that the Sat before he left a local guy came over and SOLD HIM the antenna since he didn't receive my MO. He thought I was jerking him around and that I had not mailed the MO as I said...

xxx!!!!!

I requested he get with the local guy and let him know he made a mistake and over reacted to quickly and that he received the MO and that I WANT the antenna so return it !!

Oh no he wouldn't do this after he screwed me over on this deal.

I wasn't worried about the return of the $325 but it was the principal and lack of trust even after our many conversations. I have sent checks in the past and it took 8 days thanks to the PO..The receiver was not worried about it. He took me at my word as we stayed in contact as well. You tell folks hey if this deal falls through I will contact you. I have been 2nd inline many times and sold or bought the item.

I didn't go off and make a post here calling the guy a crook because I sent him a MO and then don't hear from him for 7 days and no tracking #. No, I waited to hear from him with trust he would ship the antenna. That is how trust works.
You would think he would have waited until he got back from his vacation.

So if you make a deal with Lloyd send the check over night for $10 on your dime. If not, it will be sold out from under you.

In closing I am very disappointed as I thought I made a new and trusted friend even before I received the antenna, specially after the conversations we had. Unfortunately that is not the case. The guy did not trust me and let the slow lazy PO workers dictate our dealings.

After reading this, I can't believe this is the way ham's treat each other. I know all ham people in this community don't do business like this guy does. Yet this is pathetic. Sounds like W1JCW went above and beyond, keeping the lines of communication open, and had done all that should have been done to make new ham contacts. Then to have this guy sell out from under the buyer???' VERY BAD BUSINESS," in my book. Sorry W1JCW to be reading about your headache.Yet thanking you for informing all of us about this guys business ethics and integrity .

read my post about N6DXN richard slocum. he did the same to me. these guys make a commitment then find a local and dont have to ship or sell it for more and "pretend" that the pmo arrived late or never arrived. in the meantime, you have sent them copies of the pmo, and kept in daily contact with them. i am shocked that a ham would destroy his reputation for a few dollars and a little convenience for himself. they dont realize this stuff comes around to bite them. karma is a b..tch.............

Failure to honor their word

I have had the same issue. Make a deal, then sell to someone else. Should be a penalty or refused service on any ham sites. I have had several deal with John W1JCW and never had any issue. He is always upfront and keeps his word. Kerry K5WKS
