FT-2400

I have bought 2 Ft-2400 with the mh-27 mic's the keypads don't seem to operate the way I thought they should .Are you supposed to be able to enter frequency changes by pressing the # buttons?I have manual's for both but it doesn't give any info on this matter. Can anybody shed some light on this?
