Seller responded not through QTH

I sent a seller a question about an ad, and when I finally got a response, it didn't come directly through QTH.
They offered a good price but asked for a cashier's check for payment.
I did a couple of searches, and didn't find anything negative about them.
Would I be safe in offering to pay with Paypal goods and services, or would you just stay away entirely?
