Likely Scammer Posing as N8NYY

Post by w9ssn »

Received a message through QRZ regarding one of my listings from someone purporting to be N8NYY. The QRZ for that callsign does not show any email address and the IP address for the person originating the message appeared to be near Chicago where the QRZ address for N8NYY is in TX. Moreover, the message was strangely vague and not specific at all - another telltale sign of fraud:

"Still interested in buying the listed AD, do let me know, I think I’m finally ready to let go of mine."

I will generally only do deals with people who have an email listed on QRZ and whose IP address matches. I also will only send items to the QRZ-listed address absent extenuating circumstances.
