Just what it says -- this is the place for any discussions not related to Buying, Selling and Trading ham gear. The discussion must be related to Ham Radio.

Airlines travel with HAM radio equipment

Post by KN4N »

I am going to be operating as KH6/KN4N during the period 2-6 June 2011.

I plan on taking a case with Icom 706, P/S, tuner and a G5RV 41 ft antenna along with a couple wire antrenas W/baluns.
Anyone did this as of late? I think the 706 and PS in a carry on case will go OK but the wire antenas and baluns???? May freak TSA out. Wud it go better if in check in baggage? I don't think they X-Ray these do they?
Any help from Travelers who has did this?
Thanks, DE Bill

Checked or carry-on, it will be subject to x-ray. I would personally check it with a TSA "lock" on it. Pack it securely and pad it well even if it is padded with clothing. Each airline has different policies and/or charges for checked bags depending on flight class (first vs coach) and status (frequent flyer level). Depending on the situation, you might even find it is easier and cheaper to pre-ship it to yourself.
