Deal Gone Bad with Debbie, N0NYL - XYL of Chuck N8VIZ

Post by k7zs »

Looks like I finally got burned here in QTH.COM after many GREAT dealings with fellow hams. Please somebody who knows these hams let me know what is going on?
THE FACTS
I answered an ad Debbie placed for a 2m transceiver. We agreed on a price, she accepted my personal check, agreeing to ship the radio on receipt. checked mailed on July 12. Check CLEARED July 20. No radio. Wait another week. No Radio. Emailed asking where is the radio? Reply: husband had another stroke, too busy but will send it 'tomorrow'. Another 10 days. No radio. Another email, asking for the RADIO or preferably MY MONEY BACK. Terse response "I will send via Parcel Post tomorrow "(I overpaid the amount for Priority Mail??). That was on August 17, 5 weeks after original post. THEN I FOUND AN AD, posted JULY 22 (2 days after my check clears) that N0NYL was offering the same exact type of radio for sale here on QTH.COM Do they have a bunch of them, or was this 'round two' of the same trick?
Now, no emails are being answered, no radio. I have been ripped off.
Was this deliberate, that is what I need your help to find out. They live on Girard Place in Englewood Colorado. Other hams are listed on that street.
It's not the money, if in fact this is a blatant fraud by a fellow Ham, it would be sad. I still would like my money back, of course.

Time to call the Law where there at, being as they accepted and cashed your Check they are clearly in the eyes of the Law guilty of Fraud and theft of funds.

Burned Me Also!

Post by ki4es »

I "bought" the Kenwood TM-241A from her via postal money order on July 26. No radio. I called her & she says her husband had a stroke, but she would ship ASAP. Still no radio. Will forward e-mails to proper authorities for mail and wire fraud. She cashed MO with notation of what I was buying on it and did not ship. that is mail fraud. The BBS posts are wire fraud. I hope she is not having too may problems, but I go to see heart transplant team this week and have been out of work since April, so that doesn't cut it. This was going to be a gift to my brother to get his ticket. I bought another radio from a nice ham in HI and gave to my brother instead. Bottom line is it seems we have a total crook on our hands, but I hope I am wrong.

Hi Jerry

Sorry to hear that with your identical experience, this is indeed a case of blatant fraud. Sorry to hear of your good intentions, and also of your potential need for surgery. If you want, send me an email, include the telephone number if you want, so we can both present our information to the Englewood Colorado police department. Times are tough, but they are tough for everybody so this shouldn't go unanswered.

Thanks for taking time to post, please send me your info privately and I will call you.

I just left her a voice mail stating that I had discovered she had sold the same radio to at least two persons and I would pursue prosecution for both wire and mail fraud as she advertised it via the internet and endorsed a postal money order for the radio. I do not believe the local police can do anything as this was interstate fraud and therefore a federal offense. It still stands to be seen if they will take it seriously, but we shall find out on Friday. Right now, that amount of money means more to me than it would have a year ago.

I would sure like to have her phone number, I didn't get it. I am still going to contact the local authorities, to cover all the bases.

I think it will be important to share with the QTH.COM community what needs to happen in the case of fraud using the internet and US mail (I mailed her a check).

Is there anyone in the Denver who would like to knock on this door to see if this person still lives there?

I'll give it a go anyway, but hope folks read this about her. At least it's a bit of self policing.

If you have used the US Mail for any of this file your complaint directly with the US Postal Police. You might get a better response.
