KENWOOD SM-220 WITH BS-8 PAN UNIT from N9NOS

Post by 3dogspottery »

I recently purchased a Kenwood SM-220 HF Scope with BS-8 pan unit that was described as in excellent condition. Upon arrival, it looked in very good cosmetic condition. However, upon checkout, I discovered that the shaft couplers on both the Function and Antenna Attenuator controls were not functional due to cracked couplers. I was able to manufacture two using aluminum standoffs drilled out to a quarter of an inch. I tapped some holes for set screws, and had two functional couplers. Next, I discovered that the BS-8 pan unit does not work. I believe that I will be able to fix this unit. However, it is obvious that Gene did not check this unit out before he sold it. Needless to say, I was disappointed, and will not deal with him in the future. Incidentally, I did write to him with these concerns, but he never returned my email.

N9NOS has many very positive feedback reports. Could there have been a communication problem that led you to believe the gear was 100 percent functional?

Also, please share your call sign, you are posting to licensed hams and should properly identify yourself. Thanks...
