Guys I am replacing a FT-1000MP Mark V Field with a TenTec Jupiter. I work almost all CW. I have tried all brands expect TenTec. Is this the right move. I am keeping my TS-130S just in case it isn't.

I saw your query about going from a 1000 Field to a Jupier.

From local results would urge you to compare them side by side before jumping on this. I am assuming your Field is equipped with CW filters that
will do it justice.

I too am almost 90% CW in contests and pileups. My Field, not counting what the DSP can do, has finally settled on :

Normal CW Inrad 500hz
Very Sharp CW Inrad 250 hz
Where did the QRM go? Dual 250 hz Inrads in cascade

With DSP this can be enhanced even more but you don't really need to in my opinon.

The Collins .500 hz was a huge disappointment after being a loyal owner
of everything they made excluding the KW-1. The 60 db down points were
very braod....nice for casual searching so it went into the subreceiver.

Don't like to knock a good company....Ten Tec was on target with their Omni
series and even the Paragon was extremely good. But several locals tried
Jupiters and have every bizzare result you can imagine. Tech department
kept saying bad grounds......two of these folks are broadcast engineers
who could write a book on good grounding......one even tried a copper mesh
Faraday shield to keep his amplifieer from causing the Jupiter to change
bands, modes, just shut itself off.

The learning curve is steep on both of these transceivers and the Yaesu
manuals, earlier ones, have some errors. But patience and experimenting
with Inrads will being great rewards......and I have no affiliation with Inrad
or anyone else except my old police cronies and good CW ops!

LIKE THE GUY BEFORE THAN ME SAID YOU BETTER THINK WELL BEFORE JUMPING TO THE JUPITER,PUT BOTH RADIOS SIDE BY SIDE AND LISTEN SAME STATION WITH SAME ANTENNA,I AM A HAPPY OWNER OF A FIELD AND WITH THE 500 HZ FILTER INSTALLED IN IT EVEN WHAT ITS BEEN SAID,I CAN REJECT ANY CLOSE STATION,I AM 100% CW GUY AND I LOVE THE WAY THIS YAESU WORK IN THIS MODE,I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR A JUPITER,THANKS FOR READING.

I got rid of my new TT after 2 days and went to a Yaesu FT1000MPMKV Field. It beats the socks off of a TT little "J"

The Jupiter is a neat radio and promises improvements via the phone etc., but there's just too many negatives about it for me. I've had two of them and had similar experiences with both. One BIG problem is the birdies. You hear all kinds of stuff with the antenna disconnected! Not a problem on 75 meters in the evening, but a real pain for marginal conditions on ten. Two operational concerns bother me too. The band change and that infernal multi-purpose knob....what a PAIN!. I've had an MP and now have a Mark V and I can honestly say I wouldnt even THINK of swapping it for a Jupiter. I'm sure not going to drop 3 large on an Omni either when the "fields are going for around $1.3k
