TS-940S Sticking Relay ?

Post by W8FCD »

I can use some advice regarding an intermittent problem I'm having with the audio on my Kenwood TS-940S. Upon turning the rig "ON", on occasion, the audio volume is very low despite the AF gain control being set at my normal listening level. Flipping the SEND switch on the rig momentarily (or doing the same via PTT on the microphone) immediately restores the volume and everything's fine. The problem occurs only when the rig is first turned "ON" and not all the time. I'm wondering if the problem is a sticking relay and if so, which one -- and where can I locate it inside the rig -- and what's involved in replacing it? Then again, maybe the issue lies elsewhere. Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated.
