Tuners and Antennas for my 706 MKllG , mobile

Wanting to go mobile with my 706 MKllG and really do not want to go to a huge antenna ie: High Seirra or an auto adjustable antenna. I would like to stick to hamsticks if possible. Is there any auto tuner that can be used with my rig and hamsticks or hustler antennas. You can email any responses for or against my wishes at

When I had my Hamsticks, I used the LDG RT-11 remote tuner. Plugs into the back of the IIg and works just fine. Allows you to change freuqncy within the band and just hit the tune button on the IIg. Some say you can change bands and it will still work, but when you are dealing with the Hamsticks (or any other whip like this) it is best to swap elements. Efficiency is not the best with this type antenna.
Now have a 2" Predator which is much better than the Hamsticks. Then again, the Hamsticks are better than Hustlers.

ATAS 100 Antana might work...

If you want ot change bands while on the move and still not have a huge "auto tune" antenna you might want to consider the ATAS 100 or ATAS 120 by Yaesu. These antennas are smaller yet function from 40 meters to UHF. Eventhough they are not designed for the ICOM 706 series, there are several third-party manufacturers of small controllers that allow you to tune the antenna while on the move.
I used an ATAS 100 on HF for several years with no problems and great results.

I use a 17 Iron Horse antenna with a Icom AH-4 Tuner to tune 80/40/30/20/17
The success is just short of 10 out of 10 aganist my base verticials. I have run numerous compairsons base with different brands (Ham Stick)(Hustler) and a 108" whip.
Making solid DX contacts as well as local rag chews. Try the long version of the Iron Horse.
