Yaesu Mark V Field versus the venerable 990?

Just what it says -- this is the place for any discussions not related to Buying, Selling and Trading ham gear. The discussion must be related to Ham Radio.

Yaesu Mark V Field versus the venerable 990?

Post by kc6mmi »

I have read all the e ham revues on the New Yaesu Ft 1000 Field, but no one seems to say if they have compared it to the FT 990 yet. :?
Has any one played with both that might share an opinion :?:
thanks

I have had the new field now for 3 weeks.
the 990 I have been using is just in from service so I Guess it's ok.
using a Vertical, nothing fancy, just plug in the coax to & from each rig, listening for signals & switching the DSP on & off and using the Tuned & flat front end selections on the Field the difference is NOT that much....very hard to discern for me any way. :o
I do like the 990 for CW over the Field, the 990 just has a better sound to me for RX & TX. the side tone of the Field sound's weird (Digital ?) to me.
The Dynamic range of the receive is outstanding on the field. sound quality is real good using the int speaker, better if you use a ext speaker.
the NB on the field should have been made for cosmic noise but it's not. will have to get used to this.

I hope some one gets use from this post.
