Caution! Defective 6 pin power plugs Icom, Kenwood Yaesu

Post by w7ry »

Caution!

I just ordered some power plugs advertised as “Fits all recent ICOM HF rigs except IC-703 and IC-7000. For IC-706, IC-718, IC-746, IC-756, etc” from an EBay seller and got a substandard item. The female pins supplied in the kit that this particular EBay seller sells are too large to snugly fit onto the pins on my Icom 756 PRO III. The power plug female pins must have a tight fit. Loose pins will cause voltage drop, overheating and an intermittent connection. The plug in question has a part number of TS2000A. I don’t think that the part number has anything to do with the Kenwood TS-2000 but who knows. These plugs are most likely made in China.

Bottom line; if you buy aftermarket power plugs for your HF rig, please make sure the pins of the plug have a nice snug fit onto the pins of the power jack on your rig.
