HF antenna

Post by Billy Prewitt »

I have ran across a CATA-POLE 550+ , it is in excellent condition. I beleive it was used to reinforce a boom used on the HF bands. It is about 15 ft. long and is wrapped in fiberglass. Any info. would be appreciated.

CATA-POLE 550+

Post by WA9WVX »

Hello Bill.

This one is rather interesting and had not been intended for manufacture and/or use for Amateur Radio Antennas. Although the material is Fiberglass and being roughly 15 Feet long, I suppose if you are creative and like to experiment with VHF antennas on 6 meter, 2 meter or 70 cm bands, the item would work as an excellent Boom for a Quad or Yagi design.

The CATA-POLE 550+ was actually designed and developed for Pole Vaulting use and the product manufacturing started in the 1960s.
