Yaesu owner user manuals

Post by Sam Dillon »

Hello
I was given Yaesu Fr101S, Fl101, YO-100, YC-601 to find a good home for. As I am only technician licenced , I am looking for the manual for the receiver as I have no interest in an antenna farm in my back yard, just a wire out the window. :o

I found the other manuals on the web but cannot locate the FR-101S manual.
Any sites that have free download or where it could be purchased at a low nominal charge?

The receiver appears to have a dead front end. No noise except in FM position, and without the manual maybe there is a missing cable or jumper that would get everything going again.

Thanks,

Yaesu FR-101S / SD Receiver

Post by WA9WVX »

Hello Sam,

I spend a little time this evening surfing the Internet regarding your YAESU FR-101S / SD H.F. Receiver regarding the manuals to service this piece of equipment. I'm providing you with five (5) On-Line different manual suppliers, 2 located in the UK - England and 3 located here in the USA and their web sites:

USA WB2JKJ

http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=10000

USA KB2LJJ

http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=9887

USA INFOTRONIX

http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=9997

UK England

http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=9985

UK England

http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=2660

I would email each supplier to verify if they have the Manual & Schematics for the YAESU FR-101S that they indicate on their websites before making any financial transaction.

Now if you do get the FR-101S Receiver back to original specifications, I would not throw the towel in on using the matching transmitter since you'll have privileges on 10 Meters CW 28.1~ 28.3 MHz and SSB between 28.3 ~ 28.5 MHz with this latest FCC R & O. There are some other options that you may not have realized when using these YAESU twins and this is using the Transverter Output connectors to Drive a FTV-650B 6 Meter transverter.

I ran one of these 6 Meter transverters for several years and worked all sorts of DX on the 50 MHz band. My XYL Karen managed to Work All States including Alaska and Hawaii back in 1979. YAESU also manufactured a FTV-250 2 Meter transverter that will connect directly to your matching transmitter and receiver combination and you can operate SSB on 144.1 ~ 144.5 MHz with a horizontal beam antenna enabling you to talk out several hundred miles chasing DX and Grid Squares. In essenve you have a lot of operating to look forward too!

Hi Dan
Thanks very much for doing this work. I am going to check these out. I did find out that there had to be a shorting plug inserted into the MUTE jack to make the radio work, which seemed opposite to me ie no plug- radio works, shorting plug - kills radio. Oh well I didn't design it.

So I have a 20 foot wire stretched out the window and just playing around with the knobs and stuff and learning my way around the receiver. Several local hams have offered advice especially when I heard "quak, quak, quaking" Oh thats sideband, use the USB or LSB to clarify the voice. I had forgotten about sideband since I was a kid 50 years ago and used a Lafayette regenative shortwave receiver to do DXing.

All my hamming thus far has been just the lowly Yaesu 2 meter FT60 handheld squaking out a discone antenna on the roof. Just enough to get me to several local repeaters and thats it. Someday "when my ship comes in" I'll get a higher power rig.

So again thanks for your time and help. Much appreciated.
