D-104 wiring help

I am trying to wire a UG8 style (non amplified) to a kenwood ts-711A. I tried both diagrams on the astatic site but no luck. I can make it key but no audio, Any help appreciated, thanks.

Here's a classic example of not realizing the difference between an older designed (Astatic) product being the D-104
High Impedance (500 K Ohm) Microphone and the newer Solid State Amateur Radios (Kenwood) using a
Low Impedance (600 Ohm) Microphone Input requirements. It's a total mismatch therefore requiring an In Circuit In-Line Audio Transformer or an Audio Pre-Amplifier Circuit to be installed into the Desk Microphone's Base.

High Z to Low Z Audio Transformer

Well if you haven't found a solution for your High "Z" Impedence to Low "Z" Impedence problem D-104 Desk Microphone. I've found the exact component that you need and it's very inexpensive. Go to the following web link:

CR45-715 audio xmfr 3/4x5/8x5/8" insulated wire 50K to 500 ohm $8.85
Wire the High "Z" Astatic Microphone element to the High "Z" Primary windings (50K) and the Secondary windings to the Low "Z" (500 Ohm) output / radio microphone input. This should solve the Audio Impedence "Z" Mismatch.

(I think the mic is just too much for that radio)

You have the option of placing a new dynamic Heil element in your D-104 - instead of replacing the bad crystal element. Bob Heil (Heil Sound) now offers a HC104 Conversion kit specifically for Astatic D-104 owners. Bottom right of this web page.

The HC104 conversion kit includes the Heil HC 5 element (low impedance dynamic) that will work straight into the Kenwood, Yaesu and ICOM rigs. ICOM users MUST decouple the ICOM 8 volts! Bob has included a 1 mfd. non polar capacitor in the kit for use with ICOM radios.
The kit includes the Heil XT -1 high impedance transformers, so that the microphone can be used with high impedance input vintage (like you Heath HW-101) transceiver.
The kits includes a custom mounting ring and cover foam to properly mount the HC 5 element within the D-104 microphone head!!
