BEAM ANTENNA DESIGN

Post by W8UJX »

For all you antenna home brewers out there.

I am going to build the 2-meter beam described on page 8-38 of the VHF/UHF DX Book.

Element lengths are given for Free Space, Full Contact with a metal Boom and thru the metal Boom but insulated from the Boom.

Question:
Does Free Space mean for use with a non-metalic Boom such as wood or fiberglass?

Second question:
The element diameter is specified as 4mm (0.157"). I assume I can use 3/16" (0.185") diameter aluminum with no change to the element length? But, you know what ASS U ME can do. Hi...

Tnx, Jerry - W8UJX

Free space means just that .... hanging in free space.

Diameter difference you not should be of no impact.

Slight larger diameter will give better bandwidth....
