Heathkit HL-2200

Post by pcsf53 »

Help, been a ham for 35 years and have gotten my first amp.
I followed instructions and here's what happens.
1. Amp won't shut off, I need to pull the cord to shut it down.
2. using a TS-430 at 100 watts, pwr in. Nothing happens with either drive or load, yes the switch is in the IN position.

This amp is supposed to be recondition and it looks like it has been.
Can anyone stir me in the right direction? I'll even take some spoon feeding to get this amp on the air.
Thanks.

First problem.. get out ;your ohm meter hand ring out the power switch and or wireing to it.
That should find the 'turn off' problem.. You didnt mention if you had to 'turn on the switch' after unplugging
to get it to power back up..... that could make a difference as to how to troubleshoot.

Also to test/tune up, adjust your input to about 20 watts to protect the amp form high output if its de-tuned.
20 watts should be plenty of drive to get indications on the meters.

An RF probe on your meter or an O'scope would be handy to chase the 20 watts thru to the finals.
Power switch first , in case you need to panic power down ..
