Tuning 2M Antenna system for HF

Post by WA3NZA »

Its been years but finally ready to get back on the air on HF. My problem is limited space and limited funds. I have been considering using a 2meter antenna like 5/8 wave for 2 on wall-mounted bracket and 10 foot mast then end-feeding the whole thing (coax to auto-tuner on the HF bands, 40 thru 10. Only running 150W peak and enjoy QRP CW and would like efficiency so not considering rotating mobile dipoles. Anyone have any tips on doing this?

the antenna would be only 1/20th of the proper length on 40 meters. a quarter wave on 2 meters is about 19 inches.
a quarter wave on 40 meters about 10 feet. I dont think you could get any tuner to work with that difference.

You would basically have a dummy load. As a minimum, use a ham stick or something mounted on a metal outdoor table or railing...

Hi Joe
After viewing your QTH I would use a GAP Titan DX 10-75 or 80 on a 10-20 ft mast & a tip up base. If you reside in a nest of NIMBY's in which case I.d use a 135 ft dipole & a HELIUM Balloon with a hand winch teathering system.deploy it in a 120 degree config and pray it doesn't get ATTACKED BY HOSTILE NATIVES.
Trying to load a 2 meter antenna to 40 is more difficult than putting 50 kilos of ORGANIC Fertilizer into a 5 lb BAG.
