I just received my General ticket. I am a truck driver. I am looking for some advice on getting a All Band all mode transceiver. I don't want to spend a ton of money as it will only be used when I am on the road. I prefer to purchase something that is used but in excellent condition. I was looking for a IC 703 of something similar as I have a friend that owns one and loves his. Please advise. Looking forward to making first contact. KM4TAS

I would look in the $500 range.. ICOM 706markII is a nice small foot print rig. 12 volt. HF and 2 meters and 440.
go to 'rigpix' and scan thru some pictures of ICOM kenwood and yeasu and even Alinco for small rigs.

also peruse the eh-ham reviews.. for rigs of the past 15 years or so..
10 to 15 year old rigs are less complicated and less menu driven, so youcan just change a few buttons or controls to get things done.
many of the small rigs are still produced so you can find new adds to read and then buy a used one from up to 10 years ago.. both of my radios are 20 plus years old., with some back ups at closer to 40..
