use of HF in Hybrid cars (Prius)

Just what it says -- this is the place for any discussions not related to Buying, Selling and Trading ham gear. The discussion must be related to Ham Radio.

use of HF in Hybrid cars (Prius)

Post by W5THA »

Good afternoon: I am considering installing an HF radio in my Toyota Prius-Hybrid. Has anyone installed a rig in a hybrid? What difficulties were encountered?
The radios I am considering are: ICOM 7000 with Whip antenna and matching ICOM tuner or Yaseu FT-857 with matching Atlas 120A screwdriver antenna.

Would appreciate feedback from Hi-brid owners with experience installing in Prius or similar cars. Thanks,

The BEST thing to do is call Toyota Tech Support, customer Service or whatever they call it. You'll get first hand information. I think that most manufacturers test their vehicles for RF susceptibility. The manual for our previous car said that the diagnostic computer (that's all, folks) was susceptible to VHF RF from inside the inside.
