Home Brew Mystery Box

Hey folks. I need some help figuring something out.

I purchased a very nicely made box (oak, I think) from the estate of an SK who was also a TV repairman. It's full of home-brew goodies, but I'm not sure if it's something used for diagnostics, or a kid's science project, or what....

The modules are a DC power supply, an audio amplifier, a photo electric relay, an ammeter/speaker and an electronic timer. There is also an open space marked "batteries and lamps kit." I've uploaded a photo. Any ideas?

Looks like a fine demo aid or
teaching aid for trouble shooting.

Nice logical way to walk thru a system trouble shooting sequence..
