Old scams never die...

Post by W8SLC »

Believe it or not - I just had an offer to trade some gear for a rig I had advertised on QTH....

The proposed deal sounded reasonable, but the terms proposed by the "trader" were:

If you want a picture of the rig I offer, go to RigPix,

Send your equipment to me, and include $35 in the box to cover shipping
of my equipment to you, and

DO NOT use the Postal Service; ship by UPS only!

Let me see - he's covered on getting my rig, plus my money, and doesn't have to worry about mail fraud.

When I confronted him with this, he told me he didn't want my radio after all.

Red flags all over the place...

Has anyone else met up with this guy lately?

WHO is this person?

Can't really tell. You didn't say who he was. Give us his full name, email address, and callsign, if any, so we will know who to avoid.

Thanks...

Hi

Recently someone has been trying to pull off a scam. I would ask him for his phone number and address first. DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR INFORMATION.

Be very careful doing business on the Internet.

If you have any questions feel free to call our office at 000-000-0000

N4NCJ.... Donnie..

O.K. let me say a few things about Donnie... YES, I have met up with him lately, as a matter of fact; I've been to his QTH several times over the past couple of years. Our latest deal was just a few weeks ago and all is well. All deals made with Donnie were satisfactory. Look at his posts/listings and you will see quite a bit of equipment listed from time to time.. Nothing wrong with a little horse trading, this is what keeps the hobby alive and I personally think that this is Donnie's favorite part of the hobby, his arena if you will. Perhaps he takes the trading to the extreme at times, but hey; "let the buyer/trader beware". Caveat Emptor..Remember that from college?
OK, fellas this was just my two cents worth. I'm going to bat for Donnie, I feel he is sincere with his dealings and is honest.
Remember one more thing; an old man once told me.. consider this...
"Doctors can bury their mistakes, and lawyers can incarcerate theirs."
Average hams like you, me, and Donnie just have to live with ours.

If you are like many hams who love to trade and love QTH the way i do
there is no reason to but someone down just because you think you are so smart and know all about trading.Trading is the only way i have to get gear.
I love to trade and i may not be as smart as some of you but i try very hard to be
fare and true to what i say to traders. This is my life and with out trading
i could never aford radios i want.Thank you QTH for all you do for us all.
Thanks Donnie N4NCJ
