REMOVED....? Just a thought

Post by N1USB »

I sometimes wonder why it is that certain things are "REMOVED" from the site because of modifications or easily modifiable for out of band transmit, yet there are "OTHER AMATEUR RADIOS" that are easily modified if not already modified still for sale or trade. I dont have a gripe with any of it I just question why this happens. I am sure that most amps that are sold here are "10 meter modifiable" and most "HF" radios as well ! Is it not up to the buyer to use properly and the seller to be sure its sold to someone who has a valid license for such a radio ? Its just a little thought that maybe a few of the guys here can maybe clarify for a few of the others that feel as I might and just question the politics of it all....
WELL KNOWN PERSON "OK TO SELL, NOT WELL KNOWN ITEM REMOVED FOR ..............WHATEVER REASON.

Regarding radios, we do not allow listing of any radios that the FCC has indicated are illegal to sell in the US. There is a listing of these radios, and more detail on the "why" at http://swap.qth.com/fcc

Regarding amplifiers, the FCC maintains a list of manufacturers that are certified to sell HF/VHF amplifiers. We only allow these manufacturers, plus antique amps that pre-date the certification process, to be listed on QTH.com. There is a listing of these certified manufacturers at http://swap.qth.com/fcc

Let me know if you still have confusion or concerns over this.

What about....

What about homebrew amps capable of running on 10/11 meters?

I have an older amp here I never use. I've never bothered to post it up for sale anywhere because I figured it would just get deleted.

Hi Bill. The FCC allows hams to sell one homebrew amp to another ham per year. So, our policy is to allow homebrew amp sales if it is being offered by a ham, and IF the amp appears to be a legitimate ham amplifier, and not a CB-type amp. Yes, it requires a judgement call by our volunteers sometimes, but they are pretty good at spotting 'em.

For additional clarification, we use the FCC's rules as a guideline, but sometimes we go over and above what the FCC says. Hams that use QTH.com have told us time and time again that this is one of the reasons they like our system... that we "keep it clean."
