trading value Icom ic-718 w/dsp like new cond.

Post by cherokee376 »

Hi,I was wondering if I could get an opinion on trading my ic-718 w/dsp straight across for an old Kenwood TS-830s in nice shape all workking correctly,

Is my 718 in fact worth as much or more than the Kenwood?

Based on typical recent values, it is a fair trade.

The real answer is, "What is each worth to YOU?"

Trading a newer rig for an older one? I wouldnt trade even up. Then again the TS830 is a great hybrid rig which you can repair alot easier than one could repair the IC-718 which is surface mount and muti-layer circuit boards possibly. I know the original question was about trading and I wondered off talking about if one had to repair either radio. I can put it another way. I bet the TS830 could be repaired alot cheaper than the IC-718 could. I bet Icom would just replace the defective board and charge almost as much as the rig cost new. I bet all the radio makers do this when a radio is out of warranty. Anyways just my 2 cents worth.

If the 830 is mint i would say a even trade but if it is just one in great shape i would think yours should be worth at least a $100.00 more. Used 718's are bringing around $450.00 while a used 830 is any where from $300 -400 depending on condition..
