Dead KENWOODS 520 & 820

Post by KA3YGK »

I have two dead Kenwoods. Both receive ok. One 520, and a 820. They both have a CW filter and a SSB filter. The 520 has a bad driver and new finals, but they have been over-loaded trying it out. It also has the DC to DC converter. The side door rivets are missing, as usual. All tubes in the 820 test good, but no out-put. It also has a digital dissplay that dosn't work. Both are dusty inside and out. What are they worth? Thanks George

Value of TS-520 and TS-820

Post by K4ICL »

If the TS-520 was working OK and is in at least UREGS AVERAGE condition (See www.uregs.org for description of standards) it would be worth about $250. Because of the problems you have described it might not be worth more than half of that amount. It is too difficult to know for sure without seeing the rig.

Because of the problems you have described it might not be worth more than half of that amount. Again, it is too difficult to know for sure without seeing the rig.

The up side is that both rigs have a good solid history of being fine equipment. The down side is that there are few who want to resolve problems with rig of that vintage, especially if the rigs have been worked on without success by others. Too often the attempts to fix the rig has caused the tech to spend undue time to resolve problems. Lastly, there is the everlasting problem of finding proprietary parts for older rigs.

Good luck.
Cheers,
