Buying used radio equipment is a risk. If you're spending an amount of money
that is all you have to the dime... you're taking a bigger risk. I have bought more
than one piece of equipment (several) that just didn't meet up to the sellers
description. As someone wrote in a previous post (in so many words),
"Just because someone holds a Ham Radio License doesn't mean he's
trustworthy ham..."
I can understand somebody going off on this forum if they send someone
a considerable amount of money and never recieve the item.
But... to go on and on and on over a couple hundred bucks on an $1100
dollar item? A used item at that! That's the risk factor of buying used radio
equipment. If you can't afford the risk... be patient, save your money and buy
a new one or wait till the next Hamfest comes to your area.
If you buy a used radio and it isn't what you'd hope to be and the seller offers
a complete refund... what a short cut! If you end up a couple hundred bucks
disappointed... lesson learned. Move on. Life is too short.

AF6VM...
I have been on your end of the deal. More than once! That is exactly what
I wrote. Many others like me have been there too! Re-read my post.
You don't get it! You rolled the dice on a piece of USED radio gear!
You got a USED radio that may have been less than you expected...
you didn't get out right screwed but you're whinning like you lost $1100
bucks! I've left that at a casino! Because I could afford to be there!
If you buy a USED piece of radio gear you're taking a risk. Holding
an Amateur Radio License doesn't make all holders the same!
I've been shorted by a Ham at a Hamfest, looking right into his eyes,
as he told me how the radio worked perfectly. I spent two days fixing
it after I got it home. I rolled the dice buying a used piece of gear.
It was the seller who had to put his head on the pillow that night and
fall asleep... someday it will come around to him and he'll be whinning
about some screwing him and asking, "Why does this happen to me?"
If he'd just take a minute to think... he'd have his own answer.
It's been many years ago but I remember a source (may have been
the old call books) where you could actually look up Hams that were in
prison! It was thousands even back then!
I have read this entire thread. It's why I wrote about buying used gear.

Hello, When some of us griped about Radio-Mart's questionable selling practices, there was always another good dozen or so folks who'd get on and say things to the effect of
'I've purchased from Radio-Mart before and let me tell you he's a real straight-up guy. Best deal I ever got. I'd trust him with my wife. So I don't know what's wrong with the rest of you.'
Well, here you go. I have purchased several times from Don Waldrep. He has an Ebay store and has had one for some time now. Good experiences all. He seems like an intelligent man who takes a lot of pride in his work.

Thank you for your input Larry. Since you aren't listed in the FCC ULS, and this isn't ebay, it really isn't appropriate that you post in this thread. If you had a transaction with him on QTH, you could start your own positive thread.
Two points I have made are:
a) This thread is for informational purposes only, and your results may vary.
b) If he decided to man-up and make this deal right, I would clear him and post appropriate retractions, which hasn't happened.
One of the reasons I posted this was to illustrate his behavior when confronted about an item that was misrepresented or otherwise unsatisfactory. He lashed out at me with name-calling and threats, as he did with others, both here and on QRZ... but since you think ebay is a good thing (and it's not), read some of his negative feedback and see how he treated those people.
Since you don't have a call, your anonymous posting makes me suspicious as to your motivation for posting here in a ham forum... perhaps you're him, or his brother.... who knows.
Interestingly, further investigation has revealed this blog you posted to in '08:
http://barticles.mytimesdispatch.com/in ... les/P2267/
which says (and I'm quoting):
I think I could easily make a argument that none of us ever needed a Federal Highway System. For example, I have no big desire to drive, without stop, to Sedalia Missouri. But of.......’

Coincidence you would happen to mention the EXACT town W9FBI lives in??? I think not.
Go away now, and tell KB0XA / W9FBI that I said hello.
This is for hams buying ham gear and this is how my deal went with this guy. That's all.
But thanks for moving the thread to the top of the list again for me!

I had no problem with Don until out of the sky blue he attacked me over something he had absolutely no knowledge of. I in fact had defended him once. I sent him a private message asking him why he was lying about me and never received a answer. I've never bought from him and doubtful if i ever will until he at least explains why he attacked me or apologizes in which i doubt will happen. But glad your experiences have been good and i know you can not please every one.

What a bunch of BS ...
Grown men acting like children.
Sounds just like what I hear on the 80 meter band.
Its all BS as nobody has any legal grounds to do anything.
The radio should have been returned for the refund when it was offered.
Play nice children.

I have to agree. I purchased a MFJ-949E Versa Tuner II but wasn't told the Dummy Load didn't work, LDG Electronics AT-11MP Automatic Tuner and wasn't told (on occasion) it wouldn't tune properly and the built in SWR meter was way off, a Heathkit Electronic Keyer Model HD-1410 and wasn't told that it looked like it sat in a barn for 10 years yet the picture made it look clean.KS4ED wrote:Buying used radio equipment is a risk...
All the listings stated "it" was a good condition. Like you said Buying used radio equipment is a risk.
Yep, we keep posting.
But at least we don't have poster's remorse and feel the need to delete our posts.

OK I think I finally get it.
OK So you are entitled to your opinion but I am not? I'm not hijacking anything. I just get a real kick out of you guys who think that only what you say has any merit especially if they don't agree with you. I don't remember you having a problem with my posts at the beginning of this thread when my posts were in support of you. If you didn't want any further comments on this thread maybe you should have just let it die.
I still don't know why someone would have the need to delete posts (8 posts deleted just in this thread alone).
