This is Kami Taylor - KF4UFY.

I questioned whether or not I should even reply to this post, but after I seen it, I couldn't let it go so I knew I had to respond.

First of all, I am very sorry about not sending you the 60 dollars yet. I never said I wasn't going to send it. My family has been having some serious money troubles over the last couple of months and I honestly haven't had 60 extra dollars to send to anybody. My husband is out of work completely right now and I am only working part time, plus we have 3 children to take care of too. They are all teenagers.

I had to sell a whole bunch of my radio equipment at one time back in April (when our financial issues started), which is how I ended up getting you and someone else mixed up on the list of stuff to go out. It was my mistake, and I admit that, although I honestly don't know what you're talking about by saying the antenna didn't work. I wouldn't have knowingly sold something that didn't work, and if that is true, that makes me feel even worse about this.

I have always done business with people using honesty and integrity and I have never left someone unhappy after dealing with me. I realize this situation makes it look like that's how I am because I know I've avoided you recently. The truth is, I was scared to death to talk to you knowing I owed you that 60 dollars and had no way of coming up with it. It left me embarrassed and ashamed of my current situation. I don't like feeling this way. I don't like owing anyone money. If I had 60 dollars, I would MORE than willingly send it to you, but all this time I've had the choice of paying you the 60 dollars and paying my light bill or food, and I'm sorry that paying for my family to live has always came first. I've been in a constant state of survival mode since April, and for that, I am sorry because I know you've been on the losing end. I would give anything to freely have the money to take care of what I owe you, but I've been having to juggle so many things for the last 3 months and the fact is, I'm tired. It's so hard. It seems like there is always something that comes up, no matter how much I try to make sure nothing does. I didn't know how to explain that to you, so I avoided you. And I know that was wrong of me.

And now knowing that my name and callsign is on here and a warning against dealing with me, kills me. Is this going to be on here forever? This makes me want to change my callsign even though I've been KF4UFY for almost 15 years and I can't imagine having a different one. Ham radio has always meant so much to me even if I haven't always been active. I was 16 years old when I became licensed and now I'm 31. Being a female, I know that's not very common, so I'm proud to say I'm a ham radio operator. That makes things like this hurt even worse. It's a rare thing, and now I feel like my reputation has been ruined.

This has cost me so much more than 60 dollars, but God as my witness, I'll send your 60 dollars to you even if it kills me. Seeing this post this morning brought me to tears, and I am sorry. Please give me the opportunity to make it right.

Thank you and 73.

transaction with Kami

Kami had a Radio Shack HTX-404 for sale on QTH,
I sent her a Postal money order for $60.00.
A couple of days later, she sent me an email saying the radio was found to be
defective, and would send my money back.
Kami, did NOT cash money order and returned it to me.
I would trust her and I would do business with her again.

Kami,

I would like to help you settle your debt with w5wff. I have a Diawa CN-101 1.5K Power/SWR meter that sells for $109.00 new. If he will accept this as full restitution, I will ship it directly to him and you can relax. I was impressed with the integrity in your reply to him as well as your justified comments to another.

I am not taking sides, just hoping that you and w5wff will allow me to act in the spirit of Ham radio.

Waiting for your reply,

David / W8UAB

Hey David,

Oh my goodness. I cried and cried when I read your post because I couldn't believe how nice of an offer it is that you are making to me. It is so incredibly generous and thoughtful of you. And to think, I'm a stranger to you, but you are willing to do that for me anyway. I'm in shock, really. I'm actually having a hard time knowing what to say to express the way I feel about it. It's probably the nicest thing that anybody's ever done for me, considering you don't even know me.

But yes, I would be more willing than to take you up on that offer if he would also be willing. I am ready to be rid of the stress and anxiety this situation has given me. This has been going on for far too long.

I hate to think of anyone giving up something of value on my behalf. It feels strange to me, but at this point, I am willing to accept any help at all if it means I can get this monkey off of my back. It's been such a rough time for my family during the last few months and I've reached the point where I'm not sure how much more I can deal with. This thread really had me upset yesterday and I hope once this situation is resolved it can somehow be deleted. I don't ever want to run up on this thread ever again.

I'm assuming he's getting notifications of these posts in his email. If not, his email address on QRZ is the email I've been using to communicate with him. Hopefully we'll hear from him soon.

Thank you so much. Just reading your kind words made me feel so much better.

And by the way, that is a really nice meter. I have had 2 of the Daiwa CN-801HP's before and I love them. Sadly I don't have an amp anymore, but they were great to have when I did.

73,
Kami

Let's hope that w5wff (Jaime) will accept our offer

Kami,

Great, now let's hope that w5wff (Jaime) will accept our offer.

Don't think I am giving up something for nothing as I will be getting just as much out of this as you just on a different level.

Cross your fingers...

David (and family)

Thank you so much David. You have no idea how much this means to me and my family. This takes so much pressure and stress off of me, and you know how they say if mama's not happy, nobody's happy! You are truly a good man and I hope many blessings come back to you because of your generous offer, no matter what happens in this situation.

I also appreciate you taking the time to send him that email. I think it sounds better coming from you than from me, in case he isn't receiving these email notifications. Thank you again, so much.

David- (W8UAB): GREAT JOB stepping up like you did! I was reading Kami's post wondering myself how this situation could be helped and then came to your part. You sir, are what Amateur radio is all about and just when I thought being a ham isn't what is used to be, you come along and show me that I was wrong. I hope some day I can shake your hand and pat you on the back.

Oh wow, I am overwhelmed with the support and kindness of the people on here. It feels strange to me to know there are people who are concerned about my situation enough to reach out like they have. I'm not the type of person who is used to a lot of attention, so it's strange to me to get so much of it on here. I hope I don't sound too awkward when I express how much I appreciate everything.

My biggest concern in all of this is losing my reputation for being a decent person. Somebody very special to me told me years ago that the only thing you ever have in this world is your reputation. Everything else can change or go away, but your reputation is what you will carry with you forever and once you lose it, it's very hard to ever get it back. I know this is only one post against me, but I've never been known as a bad person to deal with, and those words hurt to read even if that is how Mr Moreno truly felt. But I figured if people were going to read it, then they needed to hear why I hadn't paid him back yet. I am not rebuking the fact that he is owed the money at ALL. He truly does deserve his 60 dollars back and he will get it back. One way or another I will make sure he is repaid. That way I will know that I don't have unfinished business that needs to be taken care of. Carrying that feeling around is not fun.

Kami, I have only been a ham for 2 years but I have learned that hams are about the most decent folks on the planet! I have made some lifelong friends in this hobby. :-)

I for one would not hesitate to have a transaction with you in the future.

You are absolutely right about that, Wesley. They really ARE the best people on the planet. I have been a ham for almost 15 years (in October) and ham radio operators have always been the ones that will come and rescue people if their car breaks down on the side of the road, or even in non-emergency situations, I've seen hams support each other in ways that other people wouldn't bother taking the time to do. There is definitely a camaraderie with hams that you don't find in too many other groups. Even though there can be a lot of drama too, for the most part, hams really do care about each other. That is very obvious.

Thank you for saying you'd do business with me! lol I know when it comes to selling equipment, QTH can usually get things sold a lot faster than even local swap nets or on ebay or something. It's really came in handy before when I needed to sell something quickly.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

Thank-you Bob, Don and Wesley for your offer to join in this Christmas in July celebration. Between the four of us we are ready to roll. I am just waiting to hear from Jaime to see how to best handle this for everyone involved. So far he has not responded to my offer but we must give this time. The most important thing is we have taken the pressure off of Kami as she has been so gracious to accept our help.

Stay tuned,

David and Family

It's me again...

I emailed Jaime / W5WFF again today. If I don't hear from him within 24 hours I will go to plan "B". He is most likely not tethered to a computer like some of us, so let's give this a little more time.

Thank you David for continuing to care about this for me. It makes me appreciate you even more for your effort. Hopefully we will hear from Jaime soon. You are right, maybe he doesn't get on the computer much, even though I never had any issue hearing back from him in a timely manner before (we did communicate several times about this). We will just have to wait and see what happens I suppose.

Judging from the responses and offers of help, I would say your reputation is in fine shape on this site.

Yes I think I can agree! I am so grateful for that. I am feeling much better about everything now. I know it's going to be taken care of one way or another. Of course, I wish I knew that HE knew that, but hopefully we'll hear back from him about this soon.

OK, Let's do this...

I will let this run till Monday at which time I will just send him a personal check to clear your debt. That way I will have a record of it being cashed thus closing the book on this. Those of you who have offered to help will be contacted at that time to follow through on a first offered first served basis.

Thanks again for all the generous offers and good spirited replies.

Have a great weekend everyone,

David
