KF6POG --- Please use Causion

Post by kw7a »

Boy, I just hate posting negative reports BUT here goes.

I sent money to someone claiming to be John Fitch, KF6POG using Paypal.

After sending money for the Elecraft KAT-500 I never heard from him again.

He did all the right things, Sent a picture of the Elecraft KAT-500, listed serial number, his callsign, etc.

So... After things went wrong: (Warning signs I missed)

His QSO card in the picture was actually a 3x5 card that he wrote the call sign on.
Willing to come down to my counter offer right away
Never actually talked to him on the phone
He contacted me by email. Said he saw a listing that I was looking for the Elecraft KAT-500.
Deal was outside any ham website.
When I checked QRZ he was there (or someone else's picture maybe?) but there was no Elecraft equipment visible in his shack.
He asked me to send the money to Paypal as if to a family member. (Said it would save him Paypal fees. Forfeited any recourse by me because the money was not sent for a purchase)
Looking at the details of the Paypal transaction afterwards, It showed the money was sent to someone else ???????

Please take care if dealing with KF6POG. Maybe the real KF6POG had his info hi-jacked.
I just sugges you use caution.

Thanks,
John
