SCAN IN PROCESS NOW

I "sold" an Icom IC-7100 radio on QTH, for $1030 + shipping, the buyer identified himself a WILLIAM HI, when in my reply to him I asked for his call = never provided. Events proceeded.
Today by UPS a check in the amount of $3300.00 was received, (UPS packet return label address) from;

FAITH ANDERSON
4693 Ametrine Court
Coronado Ranc, NV. 69139 << Note the RANC word = Mis-spelled, or ...

embossed on the check was the logo of the Boy Scouts Of America with an office of some ranch in Texas.

Next indication of the scan,
in 4 prompt followup messages I was then informed by this WILLIAM that there had been a mistake and the wrong check amount was sent to me, that his AGENT would soon be at my home to pickup the equipment and a refund from over payment. My sent reply was that his check had been deposited - placed on hold for 15 days and that was the soonest he would get a refund = provided my bank passed the hold, and that I intended to cancel the sale! & keep the equipment.

Y'all beware!

I have quite a collection of checks sent by scammers.
It costs them money to get the checks and to send them by UPS.
I always give them some story that it rained, check got wet and bank wont take it like that.
Ask if they would please send another and that I will promptly send refund.
Costs them more money ... if others would do this they would stop this scam.

I received a check last year from the same woman/return address in Nevada. First, I told the scammer, I did not receive the check, and tried to get him to spend more money sending another bogus check. However, he would not bite. I told him my mailbox caught on fire and the check may have burned up, I even offered photographic proof, but to no avail.

One would think, that 99% of hams know about these scams, but just read a post where a ham sent someone cash in the mail. Now the guy that received the money, has stopped responding. Never ever, send money in the mail. The scammers keep trying, because guys keep ignoring a few basic rules, and keep getting burned.

Yes, indeed sound advice! I hope some of the newbies out there understand and grasp this concept. Another to remember is NEVER EVER send anything to some one without a verifiable and authentic payment in hand first. Receive payment, check it out, THEN ship. I ran into a thief on here attempting to steal my radio but attempting to win my trust and confidence into thinking a payment is somewhere in the mail.

You can't be too careful and some of these losers use old tricks or like this one, very elaborate ones....

Good post!
