I got an offer from a QTH ad from someone using K5BCN's callsign. He was supposed to send a certified bank check, but instead sent a bogus check for a business in Pa from a Wells Fargo in Texas. The phone # he used was (305)306-5910 (in Florida). His email used was firstname.lastname@example.org . After I realized what was going on, I found that his email didn't match the real K5BCN who is actually in Ar. When I called the business in Pa he was supposedly sending the check from, they said they had several other calls about checks written by him. Wells Fargo has the check and all his contact info I have, now.
For reports of scammers using other people's callsigns. Remember that any callsigns listed in this forum are likely innocent bystanders (subjects of identity theft) and, thus, are probably not guilty of anything. For bad transactions with verified ham operators, use the Feedback Forum instead.
