Astatic Mic

First let me make a broad statement. Any mic can be wired to any radio. Now before I get flamed let me clarify this statement. The purpose of the mic is two-fold, One to key the transmitter, and secondly to convert the moving coil into electrical signals that can be converted back into speech. Will ...

Advertising himself as the English Professor, looks for someone to argue with him, then when he gets blocked from email, he posts his comments in the classified ads.
This guy needs to find a more constructive hobby.

Most of the time the file size warning at the end of the post is overlooked. When you upload your posting it simply ignores the picture file, but still has the instruction in the post telling you to see the picture.

The Same Guy's

The past month I have been watching the postings quite closely as I have been looking for a few odd items. What I have noticed is, with a few exceptions, the same ads over and over, from the same guy's. Are these the dealer's everyone is talking about?

One further thought....... Here in the Greater Dayton, Ohio area we have the fortune of a couple of good dealers that take most anything on trade for a reasonable value. (I didn't say fair, as it is always more fair to the dealer) When I am looking for a piece of used equipment I first search my loc...

All of your comments have some merit, however, I will stick to my way of doing things........when its gone, its gone! I delete the ad, anyone looking for it to respond, don't find it. I trust when they can't find it they are smart enough to figure out its no longer available.

IMHO, Ebay ads belong on Ebay, QTH ads belong on QTH, never should there be a reference between the two. I know I am probably a bit nieve, but I still have faith that amateurs have a certain code of ethics, that makes us a step above the general population. That being said, I am referring to honesty...

I have seen this statement on several ads. IMHO this means, "there are some issues I don't understand so I am covering my _ss." I think you have to want the advertised item really, really bad if you buy it with this kind of warning. Somewhere within the many threads listed on this site was a brief g...

IMHO, Ebay has a questionable trust issue. I have bought a few things on Ebay, all but one was "less than expected". I don't trust what is listed on Ebay, However, despite my opinion that hams are honest with other hams, there is always going to be that 1% that keeps us asking questions. To repeat a...

I often wonder why some guys go back and mark the item SOLD. Why not just delete the thread? Doesn't make much sense to me to clutter up the pages with items that are no longer available.

I simply keep two lists of calls, those that I will deal with, and those that I won't. Thanks to this thread, I have been able to add to both lists.

CB Radio

I have only been around the ham bands for 15+ years, so I cannot speak of what it was like before then. So please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but back before it was called "Citizen Band" wasn't it referred to as "11 meter band"? Also wasn't the 11 meter band originally a amateur radio frequency...

Should there be a separation of men and boys?

I don't know how to run a site like this, and certainly commend Scott for his outstanding dedication and endless efforts. But....... Would it be wonderful if there was a way to separate the dealers from the average guy? I used to think it was pretty easy to spot the dealers, but they are getting sma...

If you were trying to reach out to folks that DID NOT read the excellent forums, but DID utilitize the Classifieds, where would you post it? If I had just posted it in the forum, the target would have never been reached. Yep, nuff said, I was making an attempt to be helpful in some small way, it did...

Communicate the message

I recently wrote a bit of opinion and a lot of facts, in the form of a posting in the Classifieds. I started it off with an acknowledgement that it did not belong there but was posted to the area it applied. My attempt at reaching amateurs who were posting item for sale, to re-direct them to read co...

Hmmm, I must be getting old too!! There have been several posts over the past year commenting on the "stale ads", so I will only mention the obvious items.. 1. How can we survive without code requirement?

 I have been expecting many of the comments written here with regard to the dropping of the code requirement. The 1% hasn’t disappointed me. Flashback…..1991 when the “no code tech” license become available, again the 1% expressed their opinions. This is America, and one of our freedoms is shar...

I couldn't agree more. More than once I have responded to a posting that said, "Trades considered, what do you have?" So I sent an offer, and never hear back. I guess my offer wasn't to his liking. It would have been common courtesy to respond to my offer with a simple, Not Interested. However, it s...

Count me in on this one!

I totally agree with this. Ebay is Ebay.........QTH is QTH, I read somewhere that most of the equipment on Ebay is "less than expected" and in some cases a none existent item. That may be unfair to say as I am sure some very nice people advertise on Ebay. But as one said previously, "this is MY opin...

Hanging lights

Everyone remember when those lights came out that you hang from your gutters? I think they called them iccycle or something like that. Out in the country where I live its wide open and winds of 50 MPH are not uncommon. Anyway, the wife wanted those on our house, so I bought them, against my better j...

I can't help myself from expressing my opinion. In the past few weeks I have expressed an interest in several items advertised on QTH Classifieds. These were all postings where trades were possible. I like many other hams try not to spend money if possible. So I made an offer to these fine folks wan...

Wiring the Christmas Tree

Now - a - Days, we have all the little lights, operating at about 2 volts each, (incase you wanted to build a bulb tester) Have you wondered why they are so cheap? Its to allow you the cash flow you need to have lights that work! When they don't, its far less of a hassle to just throw the darn strin...
