Christmas time in Ham Land

Here we go again this year. It seems each year around this time the swap pages are loaded with ads advertising to sell "stuff" at inflated prices. (must be a Ebay infection) As someone pointed out in these pages several times in the past, "if your not getting any response, and, you continue to relis...

My Two Cents

Doing any deal posted is a risk. In reality, one side has to take the risk. Normally I don't mind taking the first step in belief that 98% of the hams are honest. Yes, the 2% will get you one day. However, when exchanging emails or telephone chats, if something doesn't smell right its time to ask yo...

The Joy of the Trade

It seems this time of year money gets a bit harder to come by. At least that is the common feeling of more and more hams that have families. I mean no dishonor to the older guys with families that have left the nest, but rather am addressing maybe the minority. I recently seen an ad that said, "5 we...

Non amateur posts

I know this has been discussed before, and many others agreed with the concept of restricting ad postings to amateurs only. I am not about to open a can of worms regarding the credibility of hams vs non-hams, however, IMHO I feel a higher level of confidence in dealing with another amateur who has a...

What about this idea? Scott please read.

I would like to bounce an idea off you guys. First of all let me go back 40 + years. In my home town we had a paper called Traders Weekly. In it, you could advertise about anything you wanted, however, the catch was, nothing was for sale, it must be traded. Now I am sure there was some cash trading ...

Amateur or ????

I wanted to expand a bit on ve3tmt, Max, from up in chilly Canada. Some years back I seen a reference to the problem of spelling Amateur correctly. From our friends "Down Under", borrow a word, and the ease of spelling amateur can be remembered. A mate u r , or .... a mate you are. Whatever is easie...

2 cents worth

Whew..... (I know that's not a word) hi hi When I logged in tonight and seen 10 comments, I thought, boy o boy, the guys really flamed me. I had a  (read that as Big Wide Grin) on my face as I read all the comments in support of "MY Two Cents Worth". I don't claim to be a english major, and I d...

My two cents worth

I just wanted to vent some personal frustration with the classified ads. This problem is apparent on every ham site, its not just the folks on QTH. When I am shopping for a piece of gear, I avoid those guys making a living selling used gear. I am not going to mention names, we all know who they are....

Beware of KD7OFJ, James Hills

James Hills 17923 Jordan St SW Rochester, WA 98579 360-292-0139 Callsign lookup shows the following address, but I shipped to the above one. 1201 S. Chestnut 607 Ellensburg, WA 98926 I had a trade deal with this guy, He SAID he shipped his part, I shipped my side. After a week when I asked him to fo...

The value is what it's worth to the buyer

It never ceases to amaze me, and there has been other comments written regarding this subject. The bottom line is, your posting is worth whatever the buyer thinks its worth, not the seller. Oh, I know the seller decides what he wants, but he will continue to own it if his price in not within the mar...

KC2KUY Bill Komar

I recently had a sour deal with Bill Komar, KC2KUY, of 3766 S.R. 26 Lot 36, Glen Aubrey, NY 13777, email address is KC2KUY@stny.rr.com. I think Mr. Komar had every intention of a fair trade, but sadly misrepresented a couple of items. In emails after the fact, his facts regarding the deal changed so...

Comment on not getting ripped off

A couple of things I always insist on. First of all a phone number, then make the call to verify who it is, make sure it is not a cell phone number. Ask for a email address of someone else they have done business with. Here lately, everyone wants the other guy to ship first, do you or don't you? I g...
