WA9TGT

A couple of years ago (+/-) I bought a Kenwood PS-53 power supply from Donnie. Met him in the Mall parking lot in Muncie. Neat guy..! To say the PS-53 was clean is a gross understatement. Looked like it came right out of the box..! You will have no problems in any deals with Donnie. 73 Bill, WØLPQ

Antennas

Well, get yourself an AES catalog and take a look. You can also adapt mobile antennas, such as a screwdriver or a lamp if you want VHF. Ham catalogs list quite a variety of them.

Welcome back...!

120/Mic

120/130 and such:

1 - Mic Hi
2 - PTT
3 - Ground (PTT) Return
4 - Mic Ground

3 & 4 are grounded internally inside the radio.

Mic: Shure.com and find your mic. Not sure what you have, but the 120/120 are low Z input (600 ohm).

Had both.

618T Manuals

Fair is cheap compared to Collins. Their prices range from $250 and up depending upon how many parts there are. The are "free" for download if you are an avionics shop and have access to their database. The T-3 is a noisy beast, with 400 cps inverters and so on. 28V requirements are not all that bad...

Antenna

If it is a 5/8 Wave vertical, then yes. Radials do make a difference. As in Impedance..! For a 1/4 wave antenna, slope them down about 45 degrees. For a 5/8, usually they work best at a right angle (90 degrees) to the vertical. In other words, straight out. Usually 1/4 long radials. Cut them long an...

Well, things were not to bad until you mentioned Sat stuff...! That eliminates rigs and adds others. Unfortunately, most of the radios of today ARE menu driven, whether or not WE like it...! That being said, I have a 756 Pro for the house (as well as a Drake TR-4C) and an Icom 706IIg in the car, and...

Given the tubes are OC3's (actually, OC3/VR-105's) which are 105 Volt regulators (from a 1962 Handbook) would guess the vintage of early to mid 60's. No idea of what the final amp tubes are. No idea of price to ask. I think that TE is the current Mirage model numbers, but in the 60's Mirage was not ...

Slightly off topic, however... Mr. Conner, Korea, 1960, we referred to our FLAG as the Stars & Bars, Stars & Stripes, the FLAG....! For some reason you detest the Stars & Bars....sorry....! Many servicemen use this term, and some (also those who have already died defending it) still do..! 73 WØLPQ

It is always nice to read of hams helping hams. Case in point, this morning a new post was made regarding a Kenwood TS-680 and FL-2100B Amp interconnect. Many helped resolve the problem that Dennis, VE7DMY had. One of those, was Ted, N8GPQ. I know Ted personally. Neat guy, and always willing to help...

Well, up to you. I bought an SM-20 from WR0T and use it. I like it. I think Bill, WR0T has a Heil, but also has an SM-20. Good reports with the SM-20. Never used a Heil, but they do sound good. Tuners

Ralph, I do agree that the best is none. However, anyone that has a 3db loss in coax and tuner has bigger problems than the tuner. If one chooses his coax with some forethought (he wants to use coax) then the use of a tuner is a mixed bag. A tuner really needs to be used with open wire feeders. That...

Antenna Matchboxes

1. Gotta be the old Johnson KW Matchbox or the 350 Watt version.
2. Probably the Ultimate Transmatch.

The main problem with built in tuners, they are not where they should be, at the antenna feed point, if you are using balanced line.

If you are looking for out of band transmit, I will not help you. There are sites that have them. Do a google search. There are not that many mods anyway for a 430 that are not listed in the manuals, such as filters and so on.

Not familiar with either of the radios listed, however, most of the receivers out are Narrowband...not Wideband thus the immediate problem. Well, I would not see why it is NOT legal. The transmit signal is limited by the transmit filters which set the bandwidth. Good Idea? Oh well...it is hard to tune in I agree. Why do they do it..? Balun

1. You have a single band antenna fed with Coax. If you want a multiband antenna, suggest you consider 450 ohm line with the tuner. 2. Single band antenna with balun trying to operate multiband, now the tuner has to tune the balun, coax as well as try to match the antenna. Impossible, darn near. 3. ...
