Re: Always use PayPal

As part of a professional certification, this year I studied many of the laws and regulations relating to fraud. 1. Mail fraud occurs when the mail is used to transmit ANYTHING in connection with a fraudulent transaction. In other words, if you mail a fraudster your personal check, the deal involves...

MAIL FRAUD

I read a lot where hams complain that the Postal Inspectors won't investigate their complaints of apparent mail fraud. Well, I learned something interesting. Postal Inspectors are NOT REQUIRED to investigate any allegation of mail fraud involving less than $300. Yes, you read right -- NOT REQUIRED !...

Re: READING AN AD

READ AND UNDERSTAND!!! I was trading emails with an overseas ham about the sale of an IC-271A and Astron SS-30 power supply. Descriptions, pictures, etc. After a week of trading emails, "WOULD YOU TAKE PAYPAL?" And the ad clearly said, "NO PAYPAL". I guess reading is one thing and comprehending is ...

R-390A RESTORATION SERVICE

I lost all my contacts / bookmarks when I shifted computers.

I'm looking for a specialist in the restoration of the R-390A who can turn around a unit in months, not years.

Any recommendations of individuals or services with an established track record would be greatly appreciated.

You have a valid point.

To "...reasonably...", I'd add "...and easily...".

Shipping in a bare carton that broadcasts its contents is like using registered mail -- "steal me first".

I don't think that the manufacturer's original box andy unit in its original factory carton and inserts necessarily insure safe transit. I shipped an AvCom 21.4 MHz signal display unit in its original carton. GUESS WHAT! It got damaged in transit. Original cartons aren't necessarily the problem. The...

A GOOD LAUGH

I saw this on another website. I'm posting the parts I can recall from an ad for a SWL receiver: "...and the cover that kept it IN MINT CONDITION..." The down towards the end, "...FM doesn't work ... hasn't worked for years..." "But then you don't need FM for SWL'ing". MINT CONDITION ... FM DOESN'T ...

NIGERIAN SCAMMERS GO UPSCALE!!

Nigerian scammers are going upscale, targeting law firms who accept clients over the internet . The scam is the old "cash the check, deduct your share and send me the balance". The scam now involves high grade forgeries of insurance policies, claim checks and settlement documents. Law firms are requ...

If Chinese hams started "DON'T BUY AMERICAN", how would:

The aerospace workers unions at Boeing react?

Or, for that matter, the U.A.W. at Caterpillar?

RENT A RIG WITH REMOTE ACCESS???

I read on another ham website that someone (or more) was proposing to build the "ultimate" radio shack and sell time to hams who would operate it by remote control/access. QUESTION: Has anybody heard anything reliable about this operation? I'd really like to sign-up for something like this. I've bee...

What's the equipment that you want to test? Some additional information like the XYZ 234A would help. To what extent will you test each piece of gear? Powered-up and didn't smoke? I tested the 6267B under load using a couple of 12-volt, 50 watt "marine" light bulbs as a dummy load. Set the output voltage for 12 volts on the supply's volt meter. Rechecked it with my DVM, still 12 volts. Screwed in one light bulb. The output voltage shot-up to about 20.6 volts. So did the outpu...

POWER SUPPLY MALFUNCTION

I set-up my HP 6267B power supply to run my Icom IC-271A. I set output voltage at 14.00 volts and then set the crowbar voltage at approximately 15.00 volts. Output current was set at "maximum"; I wasn't running the supply in a constant current mode. I checked the voltage with a DVM at the end of the...

I did a FCC "advanced license search" on Vargas and came up with a 169 hits?

Do a little digging there and you might come up with a lead.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE A CHEAP BUYER?

K4ICL: I agree with your comments about the seller being responsible for the safe delivery of the goods he sells. But what do you do when you're selling a rig with the proviso that the buyer is responsible for the packing and shipping charges. EXAMPLE: I was selling a Racal RA-1795 for $1,500 - buye...

I've had experiences like KK4CWA's over proper packing and shipping. A lot of hams are CHEAP and don't want to pay for proper crating and insured shipping. I had a "deal" (Hi, Hi) to sell a Racal RA1795 surveillance receiver and complete manual for $1,500. The receiver was to be double-boxed with do...

10+?????

Saw an ad for a rig on another website. The seller said "This radio is 10+".

Given that it's not a typo and a brand new, never used, straight from the box rig is a "10" , is this seller's rig "better than new"?

It may be one of those "low" B+ tubes used in car radios or the R-392.

Can you post a schematic of the preamp? It may need a hum balance adjustment pot.

I don't know why there's all the bellyachin' about Radio Mart requiring the buyer to pay shipping when returning a rig. I'd say that about 90% of on-line, phone or mail order outlets require the buyer to pay return shipping. I bought a "nanny cam" for residential surveillance. The seller sent me the...
