Re: Why are Hams so hostile?

I don't have an answer but I have a solution: IF THE WOULD BE CUSTOMER IS NOT A BUSINESS, RUN THE NAME THROUGH THE FCC'S ADVANCED LICENSE SEARCH. IF A PERSON WITH THE WOULD BE'S NAME AND ADDRESS TURNS UP AS A LICENSED HAM, REJECT THE ORDER. So you lose some business but you also lose the pain and ag...

Re: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN DEALING WITH...

The only party that PayPal protects is Paypal! An online seller shipped the wrong goods. Per PayPal , I would have had to pay more than the anticipated refund (purchase price only) to get a refund. Per the Credit Card Issuer , if the seller wanted his goods back, he had to pay for me shipping them b...

Re: David Levy W1WN Run away from!!

Dave may be entitled to your deposit if he sold the amp for less than what you offered! The next time, DON'T SPEND MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE. "Here, sell me your HF-380. I'm going to win the lottery tomorrow." And being out of work for two years and spending your inheritance on ham radio says something a...

Paul: How long have you been licensed? You ABSOLUTELY DO NOT bypass fuses. Neither do you replaces fuses with a different rating, 3 amps instead of 2, or a "Slo Blo" instead of a regular fuse. OEM fuses were chosen to protect the gear and you. That was my safety rant. Now for the advice. The fact th...

DAMAGE CLAIMS

It amazes me how many posts there from hams who've received damaged gear in a on-line deal and don't what's going on. If your gear arrives damaged, DON'T RUN AND CALL YOUR SELLER FIRST; CALL THE CARRIER AND FIND OUT WHAT THEIR CLAIM PROCEDURES ARE! Most hams selling on-line are not "pro" or "semi-pr...

INTERFERENCE WITH DIGITAL TV

We're thinking of switching to over-the-air digital TV. Comcast is $100 a month and nothing to watch. We're planning on a omni-directional digital TV antenna on our chimney. At some point in time, I'll put a VHF/UHF antenna on the chimney and an undetermined type of HF antenna somewhere on (or near)...

Any statement as to the condition of gear for sale MUST BE taken as an opinion and not as fact until personally verified and "carved in stone".

Joe's a great, honest and cooperative. He promptly shipped a piece of WW II signal gear to the Signal Corps Museum at Fort Gordon, saving me a second set of shipping charges.

Would do business with Joe again.

Bill:

Did you use a credit card?

If you did, call your credit card company and see if you still have time to dispute the transaction.

Yes, you can dispute a transaction if the merchant fails to deliver a "freebee".

BTW, the Federally mandated deadline for filing a credit card dispute is 60 days from the date of statement on which the disputed transaction first appears. There's a way around this insanity: 1. Use a prepaid credit card with your PayPal account. 2. Zero out the card AS SOON AS the funds become ava...

CUSTOM SHIPPING BOXES

I'm looking for a source for custom shipping boxes for radio gear.

Ham Radio Boxes is going into a temporary(?) shut-down. And Jill's (?) Better Boxes can't be found.

Any recommendations for someone specializing in these custom cartons?

It's six of one and a half-dozen of the other. Hamfests have an advantage in that you get your cash right there, on the spot. No waiting for payment. No packing and shipping. No claims of misrepresentation. And your buyer can't bellyache -- at least to you. Drawbacks: Fests are weather dependent. It...

Re: Use PayPal or Don't Sell

I strongly disagree. PayPal would have screwed me twice but I reversed their charges on my credit card. One seller sent me the WRONG ITEM. To get my $4.95 back, I'd have to spend $7.95 for postage back ON TOP OF $7.85 I paid for postage to me. Another seller wasn't shipping a badly needed household ...

Re: Shipping your stuff at buyers expense.

Al, the other and the often unseen point is substantiating the fair market value of the damaged gear. Your carriers aren't going to pay $1,000 for a rig they totaled just because two hams say that's what it's worth. They're going to ask for some third party information to substantiate its value. I o...

The BEST thing to do is call Toyota Tech Support, customer Service or whatever they call it. You'll get first hand information. I think that most manufacturers test their vehicles for RF susceptibility. The manual for our previous car said that the diagnostic computer (that's all, folks) was suscept...

Yes, at least FedEx has enough smarts to put their deliverys in a concealed place out of the weather. And, the worst part of it: THE BLINDS WERE FABRICATED TO FIT OUR ...

Re: Shipping your stuff at buyers expense.

I was trying to sell a Racal RA1795 with complete manual, asking $1,500 -- picked up in Chicago. This guy wants a HIGH-END receiver but doesn't want to pay; he offers $1,250 plus packing and shipping. You got a deal. I shopped around and found a commercial crating service. They'd crate the receiver ...
