Selling in HAM forums vs classified of other interests

I have noticed something totally disheartening. When I read through the Feedback Forum, I see posting after posting about HAMs who cannot be trusted when it comes to exchanging money and merchandise. I belong to a few other classifieds groups related to some of my other interests in metal working, m...

I had the same experience. Here is an email quote from the seller who's item went missing: Anthony, I am trying to sell more HAM stuff to replace your 75.00....I found I have lost another thing....at the same place.... I will try to hurry.... Sorry for the problem.... and inconvience... and you're l...

There appears to be an interesting discussion evolving here but for the sake of organization it may be a good idea to start a new thread on the Safe Trading Tips Forum. As for the topic at hand, the same transceiver has been relisted: icom 746 and LDG AT-7000 tuner for sale I have a Icom 746 and a L...

I agree with VE3TMT. Why would anyone buy from someone who sends in an ad like that? That is just asking for problems. If someone spells like that, there is a good chance that the e-mail that you send will be confusing to that person. It might not be intentional but a few red flags should have gone...

Thank God! The money order has been returned. One think I learned from this experience is that a USPS money order leaves no protection for the buyer. Once it is in the mail there is no cancellation that can occur in the event that it is sent to the wrong address or information arises that would caus...

If I had a private airplane I would love to travel around the country and pay some of these people "a little visit." What's more frustrating in these situations is that, in my experience, many deals gone bad don't start out with the seller seeking to rip anybody off. I am in the process of trying to...

KE4MAE: PROCEED WITH CAUTION

Whenever I enter into a transaction involving amateur radio equipment I usually check this forum for any feedback regarding the other party. I also place their callsign into an internet search engine to see if any other pertinent information shows up. Since I found no information regarding Clifton B...

Both of you make valid points but I'm not talking about the seller including an exact address (even though I can easily find it on QRZ.COM). Just listing the state would allow me to at least determine what may or may not be a possibility.

I don't think having the original box should necessarily communicate anything because there are various reasons why they may not have it. I imagine some people just get sick of having them around. In general, however, I have mixed feelings about whether it is a selling point to advertise that an ite...

I put this gentleman's call into a search engine to see if any other info is floating around and I came upon his ebay feedback. It speaks for itself.

I agree for the most part but with a caveat: Although I have never sold any HAM gear on eBay, after some trying experiences I have had in response to ads I have placed on QTH.com and elsewhere I have thought about using the site in the future. I have had several experiences where I am contacted and ...

Item location for "pick-up only"

I cannot resist posting something about this any longer- :P I am in the process of building a station and have been browsing QTH.com often in search of a tower available near me. In this process, I have been surprised that while these items indicate "NO SHIPPING PICK-UP ONLY," about half of these ad...

This would add convenience to searches also. When I was in the market for an HF transceiver I found that the format a person chose to describe the model would skew search results. For example, I have seen a Kenwood TS-850SAT listed as a TS850S AT, TS850, TS-850S(AT) etc. Requiring a pull-down menu w...
