Yaesu Ft-100 Cross band operation?
Does anyone know if the Yaesu FT-100 hf/vhf/uhf transceiver is capable of FM cross band repeat operation? Some people have said yes, but I see nothing in the manual regarding this.

WANTED Information on Motorola GR-500 UHF repeater
A friend and I are in the process of setting up a Motorola GR-500 UHF repeater. The system is currently up and running, but we have run into a problem. Although everything else is working well, we are unable to program the controller with an ID. I believe the controller is the ZR-340, but can't be c...

Rant about newer transceivers
Ok, I will admit that I am an old fart and have a hard time accepting a lot of change. Having said that, I really despise {don't like to say "hate" } so many of these new transceivers that are so difficult {for me} to program! For me these new vhf/uhf mobile rigs and HTs are an absolute nightmare to...

Question about duplexers
I have a Yaesu FT-100 transceiver which covers 160 meters thru 6 meters plus 2 meters and 440 mhz. It has two pigtails for RF output. Pigtail #1 is for 160 thru 6 meters, and pigtail #2 is for 2 meters and 440 mhz. I have 4 separate antennas for these bands. I am guessing I will need 2 different dip...

Question on vhf/uhf duplexers
For the first time, I have the need for a 144/440 duplexer for a new radio and need some information. After doing some research on the net, I have not found the answer to my question. The transceiver has one output only and is designed for use with a dual band antenna. However, I plan to use two sep...

Problem with Icom 746 and Icom SM-5 microphone
Anyone know if the Icom SM-5 mic is compatible with the Icom 746? I picked up an Icom SM-5 desk mike for my IC-746 {non-pro} and apparently they don't work well together. I get plenty of audio {too much unless I crank it way down} but for some reason it effects the PL tones when operating 2 meter FM...

Last second bidding on ebay
There are several auction sites such as gunbroker.com who have what they call a "15 minute" rule. Any last second bids will automatically extend the ending of the auction by 15 minutes more. This totally eliminates sniping. Ebay knows this but for some reason will not embrace this option. As others ...

Why are hams so cheap?
I,am the third of four generations of hams in my family. After being licensed for 37 years, I believe I,am qualified to make an observation about hams in general. Hams are probably the cheapest people with money of any group of people I have ever delt with. I have learned this not just by selling on...

There! I said it!
When tuning up my transmitter I usually do it on an unoccupied frequency. There, I said it! Not many will admit that! Now before all you purists get your bowles in an uproar, yes, I do have a dummy load. The dummy load presents a perfect 50 ohm impedence with a flat match. My antenna's do not! If I ...

Perhaps this isn't the right place to write my rant, but something has been bothering me and I guess this is as good of a place as any. As I read the daily posts on the feedback forum, it occured to me that people have been misusing that service. It seems to me that the feedback forum is there for t...

On using matched power tubes
This topic has no doubt been discussed here before, but I haven't been around long enough to have seen it. I have been reading on various blogs debates regarding the need for matched power transmitting tubes. Some people seem to think it is absolutely necessary while others say no. Case in point is ...

Portable or mobile?
Is it correct to call the operation of an HT as portable or even refer to an HT as a "portable"? I may be mistaken, but I always thought "portable" meant operating from a fixed location other then that listed on the station license. Ofcourse if you are operating an HT while at a fixed location, you ...

Message received from another known scammer
Below is an email I received in reply to an ad I ran on QTH for a Yaesu amplifier. This is the second time this thief has tried to scam me using different calls. He currently is using "2e1dhl". Western Union payment and a g-mail address is always a dead give away! "This amplifier covers 160m to 10m ...

I recently posted a want ad here on QTH. I received a reply from someone pretending to be 2E0IMT. I noticed the email address he sent me was different from that listed on QTH. I contacted the real 2E0IMT using his correct email address instead of the one the scammer provided. It turned out that 2E0I...

Horizonal inverted V antenna
Thanks very much for your reply regarding the horizontal V antenna. I think my main concern was would the antenna in that configuration be able to maintain a 50 to 75 ohm impedence at the feedpoint. Apparently it would, although as you say, it change the pattern considerably. This probably would not...

Horizontal inverted V antenna
I have been wanting to put up an antenna for 160 meters, but have space restrictions. The property is plenty long enough but my shack is located at one end of it. Running an inverted V or center fed dipole will place the feed point too far from the house and will present other problems with where th...

Is a larger amplifier really worth it?
I currently run an HF amplifier which puts out about 600 watts. I have been considering upgrading to a larger amp with 1200 watts output. Everyone says the first 600 watts makes the biggest difference and an additional 600 is bearly noticable. Yes, I understand the formula...doubling of power equals...

Problem with Yaesu FL-2100B amp?
I have a Yaesu FL-2100B amp that apparently is developing a problem. In over a years use, I have noticed that the position of the loading knob has become increasingly lower to the point where it is now at "0". The antenna has remained the same and I,am using an external tuner which tunes the antenna...

I recently purchased a transceiver from Dan, N1NIC thru QTH. Not only was the radio better than expected, but Dan took the trouble to replace the memory battery to insure my satisfaction. Dan kept me posted on all facets of the transaction along the way. Needless to say, I,am very pleased and would ...
