Re: Kenwood TS-850 to repair or move on???

I am sure it's repairable. But the question is, " how much money do you want to invest in an old radio?" I had a TS850SAT from new. I think I had it for 22 years. It's really a great radio. I only sold it because of its age. I knew there would be a time that it would quit and did not want to invest ...

"Still under warranty !" Do you think so sweet pea ?

Selling and still under warranty ! Really? Is the warranty transferable? Show it in writing if it is. So many adds tell you that their equipment is under warranty. “Is it a total lie?” No! As long as THEY keep the radio it’s under warranty. Once you buy it, the equipment is no longer under warranty....

Re: Rant about newer transceivers

I have to agree. Trying to program these radios with just your fingers and the manual in front of you is a real pain. Hence the reason I ONLY buy uhf/vhf radios that can be programmed via computer. That's not to say I can't program one without a computer, but life is so much easier doing it with a c...

KA0DXU---great guy to deal with

Very nice guy to deal with.

Re: Delta loop

The feed point impedance changes as you change the delta loops height above ground. It also changes as you move the feed point from the bottom to different points around the antenna. If you make a true delta loop with the apex up, the 4 to 1 balun will usually work fine if it's placed at the apex. I...

Re: Why are Hams so hostile?

I've been in the ham radio retail business (wire antenna distribution) for over 20 years. Over that time I have never ever had one person act hostile. I've had people disagree with me, mostly at hamfests. I've had people ask for information that was proprietary, I would not pass that information on ...

Re: When you REALLY don't want to sell it.

Don't for those guys that post a picture up side down ! My first impression, when I see that, is if the idiot can't even take post a picture, how could he operate ham gear?
As soon as I see an up side down picture, I exit and never ever read the add.

Re: murch ut-2000a HELP

All good information above. Here's an added tip. Hook up your antenna, turn on your rig, follow the above instruction but also listen for the loudest receive signal while turning the knobs on the tuner. It doesn't matter if you hear someone talking or just background noise. When the receive signal i...

Re: 3-500Z amps

The answer depends on what you consider a quality amp? Are you looking for one that can handle 1500 watts out keydown in an RTTY contest? Then the answer is, "NO !" If you are looking for a great little amp that can be used in a contest for CW or SSB, then the answer is, "YES !" Ameritron AL-82 does...

Re: Why are hams so cheap?

Some hams are cheap and some hams are not cheap. How many people on this forum pay sticker price when they go and purchase a car, new or used? Who doesn't like a bargin? Just because someone offers a lower price for what you are selling does not mean they are cheap. They very well may be? But it's n...

Re: Rant: Don't get it...

All good points and I have to agree. I'd like to add two things. Why put a picture unside down in a post? Does that person think it will sell faster when doing that. What it does to me is drive me away. I figure if the person is that dumb that they have no idea how to use a simple camera, then they ...

Re: New Yaesu FT-991

The one advantage the FT 897 had was low current drain on transmit and receive compared to some other rigs, like the IC 7000.
Now that they changed to a bigger display, what's going to happen to the current drain.....going to go up?

Re: Antennas

Remember one thing about a 1/4 wave vertical antennas, "It's only as good as the ground radial system you install under it !" Poor ground radial system, poor ERP. Good ground radial system, good ERP. If the radials are on the ground or under ground, they do not have to be tuned. My point is, maybe y...

If you win a door prize, like a Kenwood TS590S and have no desire to keep it, I don't see where selling it is an issue. BUT.....if you pick up a free brochure for a Kenwood TS590S at a vendor's table, I think selling it is pretty sleezy. How cheap can someone be? This is nothing more than taking adv...

If you are getting 1400 watts out of a Collns 30L-1, either you need a new watt meter or your are over driving the amp. You are hammering the grids and beating to death the power supply ! Even if you change the tubes to four each 572's, that amp is not designed for that kind of power output. Asking ...

OCF / parallel feeders

Never feed an Off Center Fed Antenna with parallel feeders. An OCF is not a balanced antenna and the parallel feeders WILL RADIATE and this you don't want. You would be better off using a simple dipole cut for the lowest operating frequency and feeding it with parallel feeders if that is the transmi...
