Repeater behavior

We have a repeater here in the Tampa Bay area that is really on the fringe. Recent on air topics include support of the killing of the abortion doctor, and support of killing current American political leaders. I will not identify this particular repeater for obvious reasons suffice it to say it's l...

It's a scam. I usually get those from Nigerians. One time it was a transceiver and the guy wanted about ten times what it's worth.

Ebay made it easier for fraudulent bids by making bidders mostly anonymous - all you see is the first and last letter of the bidders identity. This all but assured the auctions are crooked in favor of the sellers. And there is nothing you can do to prove it and Ebay couldn't care less. They are more...

Ebay is Fixed (smell I)

I think Ebay is fixed. I don't see how old ham gear on Ebay can bring the bids I see with the economy in the shape it's in. Right now Cash is King but not on Ebay. It's as though the economy is alive and well and everybody is living in a palace. Five years ago a cheap transceiver (Corsir II, FT-747G...

ict mein Fuhrer? KC8HXO

I bought some equipment from kc8hxo that turned out to have intermittent problems. I wrote him a non - accusing email and asked him to tell me truthfully if he knew about the problems. He writes back with a confusing denial then ends the email by quoting Adolf Hitler. Heck I was just going to drop t...

Yaesu 8-pin mic

A Yaesu 8-pin mic without a connector has 8 colored wires - red, black, brown, yellow, green, orange, and blue. I assume the red wire is the AUDIO wire but can someone tell me which wire is Ground and which is PTT? Thanks in advance.

Hamfests getting worse

I digress...What I saw were a lot of Cleggs, non discript junk, cb gear, old underwear, faded Obama colored Kenwoods (sun washed) with flaky looking buttons that looked like they'd been in storage forever. I don't know what motivates a person to pay $22 a night for a tailgate spot, haul most of the ...

Overpriced

I totally agree - everything on this site is overpriced. A Corsair I for $425. A corsair II for $600. I bought a Corsair II locally about four years ago for $200. Some of you say if your are lazy or stupid enough to pay too much for something then you deserve what you get. If you use that for justif...

747GX

As a post script to this thread my 747GX finally bit the dust. I was transmitting PSK-31 when I suddenly got a high swr then turned off the rig to save the finals. When I turned it back on the cpu was fried. No TX not RX - caput. Served me right for not using isolated cables on a radio with RF feedb...

Hamfests getting worse

I attended the Orlando Hamcation at it's amazing how many people were there and how disappointing the fest was from a buyers point of view. There werent very many tailgate items worth hauling away - let alone buying. What happened to all the good mid 1980's to mid 1990's transceivers. One table had ...

FT-747GX

Thanks for the info. While transmitting at 20 watts my SWR went infinite. I turned off the radio to save the finals - then turned it back on and the CPU was fried. The antenna and transmission line were fine so I think the CPU just went bad in the radio. I'm not too good at programming and software ...

FT-747GX CPU crashed

The CPU in my FT-747GX crashed while I was transmitting at 20 watts on PSK-31. The panel buttons no longer function and only beep when pressed. Is there any way to reset the CPU in this transceiver? Nothing is mentioned in the manual. Thanks for your assistance.

FT 747GX

Please note: I turn down my power output to a few watts whenever I tune up so my finals will not be in danger if I defeat this circuit. Thanks. 8)

FT 747GX

My FT 747GX has a problem tripping the high SWR shutoff whenever I tune up the radio on high frequency bands (15M-10M) using certain types of antennas.

Does anyone know how to defeat the high SWR shutoff circuit? Thank you in advance for your help.
