Yaesu VX-7 Receive Issue?

Howdy, I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen this issue with a VX-7 HT on receive. The VX-7 has a Main-level receiver and a Sub-level receiver in the same HT. My Main-level receiver has weak receive, yet my Sub-level receiver has EXCELLENT receive when I switch between the Main and the Sub for the s...

Programming the '7R....

I'm sure my post has been OBE (overcome by events) through your efforts to program the '7R, but I've found that you need to do a read first and then try programming it - especially if you're using VX Commander. Give it a try - it may work for you, too.

More about the Multiband Vertical Antenna....

Sean, Nice work! Glad you're out there experimenting with the design - you'll keep finding that some materials seem to work better than others. I did the same thing when I was playing with this antenna and found that using 3/4" rigid (blue letters) copper was better than the softer (red letters) cop...

Re: homebrew version of the comet ch250

Sean, Sorry for the incredibly long delay in getting back with you. I check into QTH.com all the time, but I haven't checked the posting in awhile until this evening and saw your comments. Please read on.... Using a 9' steel whip instead of aluminum tubing should work fine - in fact, it's a lot like...

VX-7R Programming - the fix!

Guys, I had a Ham respond to me by email and told me the fix for the programming error I was seeing with my VX-7R. Here's the fix: 1.) YOU HAVE TO DO A RECEIVE FROM THE HT BEFORE YOU CAN PROGRAM TO IT. So, dutifully, instead of doing the download to the HT, I just did a RECEIVE from the HT, discarde...

More Results on the Multiband Mobile Antenna with more whips

Since the last time I posted results of the Multiband Mobile Antenna (80 - 10m), I wrote that I was going to try some other antennas and provide the details of that. Well, I've tried a number of different antennas for VSWR and performance working with the matching transformer contained in the waterp...

I got up this morning and immediately went to work getting the Wideband Vertical HF Mobile Antenna assembled and first VSWR tests completed with the 75m vertical antenna threaded to the top of the antenna's base loading transformer. I found during assembly that I should have recessed the PL259 deepe...

Since I last wrote I commuted to work each day thinking of what the antenna design should be comprised of to keep it within the same rules as the Multi-Band Vertical I use on my home Ham station. About SWR Meters....

Most good SWR meters are based on a somewhat wideband directional coupler and diode detector to show forward and reverse power as DC current sent to the meter. If calibrated well, most CB SWR meters will work over a +/-10MHz range (17MHz to 37 MHz) with some error (about 10%) at each end, optimally ...

Multiband Vertical Antenna - Part Deux......

It's been a busy summer at the QTH in central Iowa but with thoughts of a upcoming (if it will ever get here) sunspot cycle, fall camping, and the prospect of a new mobile HF rig, I've been thinking of applying the design of the original Multiband Vertical Antenna http://chat.qth.com/viewtopic.php?t...

Multiband Vertical Antenna (80 - 10m - - even 6m).....

Take a look here: http://chat.qth.com/viewtopic.php?t=4455 That is a multiband (80 - 10m - - even 6m) and it works very well CONUS and into some DX. Low VSWR and virtually free of any restrictions band to band. And it's easy to build once you have the torroids. I built mine out of easy to find plumb...

Well not really, Bill.....

Bill, Thanks for posting. This antenna really isn't "...a big dummy load at the base of a vertical...". There's nothing resistive about it. It's more a matching transformer than it is some lumped resistance to fool the rig. The matching transformer is certainly there to pick up any VSWR from the ele...

Multiband Antenna - The Final Chapter.....

I've been chasing the design for the past couple of weeks and did a lot of thinking about what direction I wanted to go - wire wound vertical element or more length in the vertical element. I ended up taking the latter to make one change at a time. Read on.... With a side business trip to Omaha on S...

Okay - more data points on the broadband vertical antenna....read on.... I've given the antenna a pretty good workout on a number of bands (80m, 40m, 20m for now) and was given signal reports of S-6 and S-5 with this current design (22' vertical element - not optimal) on all those bands.
