BEWARE -- AF6IV

Someone posing as AF6IV responded to my WANTED ad and offered to sell me a Watkins-Johnson RS-111C receiver. When I asked for photos of the front and rear panels, (s)he took cover. No response; no photos. (S)he is using the call: AF6IVSTEPHENJR@YAHOO.COM. There are two posts on eHam regarding this c...

Re: Ham gear

Marty44: A face-to-face sale -- fest, CraigsList, radio club -- is preferable to an online sale. Quality packing and shipping - not UPS grade - costs $$$. And you don't have to worry about collecting your $$$ -- unless you're paranoid about DIY USC. An outdoor fest is preferable to an indoor fest. O...

Jim: 1. Try running a Google search on that phone number. It may be out of Seminole, Alabama. 2. Get a free "trial" membership in "Peoplelooker", "Number Guru" or a similiar search. You might find out who the clown is. 3. Try *67 plus his phone number at 0200 Eastern time about six or eight times. "...

Re: What's Happened to Honesty among us???

"WORKS GOOD"! Hams are just like gas company workers; they become 'immune" to the flaws/defects in their gear just like gas company workers become immune to the smell of gas and use gas detectors to locate leaks. We've been through it with a house to the tune of about $35,000. The trick would have ...

Don't depend on the manufacturer's original box for safe packing and shipping of ANY radio gear. Original boxes are not necessarily designed for shipment to the end user / purchaser. They're primarily designed for palletized shipping from the manufacturer to a central distribution point. Just as ret...

Thinking that somebody is honest just because "we are all hams" leads to something called "Affinity Fraud" practiced by Ponzi & Madoff. As to what happened to honesty among us, was there really ever that "honesty" or are we just looking back on the bygone days with rose-colored glasses? I used to pa...

FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

THERE'S SOMETHING CALLED THE "STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS".

In most jurisdictions, IT'S TWO YEARS FOR EVERYTHING EXCEPT HOMICXIDE (NO LIMITATION) AND OTHER SELECT OFFENCES.

FORGET IT!!! THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ANY MORE!

Re: I don't get it.....scratch scratch of the head....

Some years ago, about seven or eight, I listed two USED, UNTESTED RCA 808 transmitting triodes on one of the websites at about 2130 Central. About 2145, shut down the station. Nest day saw an email time stamped 2230 saying something like "I'll take them ..." at the asking price. Next email, time sta...

Scott: Suggesting a different payment option does not automatically make you a scammer. Yes, people on all three ham websites "jump the gun" on screaming "SCAM" without a readily apparent reason. However, they may have been scammed or have a "close call" with a scammer. Or, maybe when they were kids...

SCAMMER USING K4QK / SIMMIE L. WALKER, Jr.

Today, at 05:29, I received an email from a scammer uising K4QK and Simmie L. WAlker (simmie.walker@aol.com) offering me a Watkins-Johnson 8516P receiver for $1,100 plus shipping. The name and call passed the FCC ULS test. And ALMOST passed the QRZ test. The real K4QJ's profile is unmanaged and does...

Re: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN DEALING WITH...

Once upon a time, I was selling my RacalRA1795 receiver. The price was $1,500 plus packing and shipping. I had a nibble from a buyer who would actually pay my price plus shipping. I called a commercial packing and shipping service. $250 - $300 for a foam-in-place wooden crate and air freight to the ...

"SUPER MINT"??????????????

Can anyone explain what's the difference between "SUPER MINT" and plain, old, ordinary "MINT".

I think it's another seller blowin' "hot air".

And we wonder why so many online transactions end up in a dispute.

Don't feel bad about WA7ZXZ claiming to be a "SK".

In Chicago, on Election Day, "SK's" are known to vote.

In fact, you can't be in Chicago on Electio Day and NOT believe in the "resurection of the dead.

I don't have an answer but I have a solution: IF THE WOULD BE CUSTOMER IS NOT A BUSINESS, RUN THE NAME THROUGH THE FCC'S ADVANCED LICENSE SEARCH. IF A PERSON WITH THE WOULD BE'S NAME AND ADDRESS TURNS UP AS A LICENSED HAM, REJECT THE ORDER. So you lose some business but you also lose the pain and ag...
