I'm glad Amateur Radio is about technology not communications.
TOO many unreadable ads.
Maybe that's why automated digital modes are so popular.

Try searching the "Big Three" for S-85's offered for sale.
The asking prices could be a good starting point.

K8ZFJ: How would you define or prove receipt of funds without resorting to priority mail or certified mail - return receipt requested? I once had a package get to Sweden faster than one shipped at the same to Iowa. Do you define receipt of funds as receipt of the payment instrument (check, MO, etc) ...

They ALWAYS were bad.Hamfests are getting real bad about being a dumping ground for equipment with issues.
Even in the 80's.

Once upon a time, I was selling my Racal RA1795 receiver -- a solid state "boat anchor". The price was $1,500 including crating & air freight to San Francisco. the crating & insured air freight was about $300 -- out of pocket. The buyer wanted to use PlayPal. Naturally they're both in California. Bu...

"... sale includes everything that came in the box...'
What is this? Some kind of scam? "Sorry, that didn't come in the box."
Or is the seller just too lazy to this everything included in the sale?

#2 SAFE TRADING TIP -- CASHIER'S CHECKS
When confronted with a scammer trying to pull the Cashier's Check (or any non-personal payment instrument) scam, tell them that your financial institution WILL NOT accept their paper for deposit and that it has to be sent in for collection. True, a collection will cost you some $$, but, if the scamm...

I can't believe that they are still trying to pull off the "Oldest Scam In The Book".
It ain't the "oldest" to somebody who never heard of it. And, believe me, millions probably still haven't heard of it.

Re: The honest seller.......or is he ?
Fraud is defined as when "A KNOWINGLYmakes a false statement and B, relying on that statement, acts and suffers a loss.
The hardest problem in any fraud action is proving that the alleged fraudster KNEW his (or her) statement was false.
Try it sometime!

PayPal -- complete failure to deliver.
If you run PayPal through your credit card, file a billing error notice with the card issuer: the seller failed to deliver the goods.

Re: Sales Tax may effect sales on QTH.
Dan: I doubt that sales tax will greatly affect sales of used gear on QTH. eBay & QTH are quite different. eBay is actively involved in the sale of goods and its stooge, PayPal, control the funds to & from the seller. QTH does not. I believe that eBay is required to report sales of more than $20,000...

RODRIC LEGER -- RODRICK1RQS@OUTLOOK.COM
Received a response from a purported K1RQS to my 10.7 MHz SDU wanted post.
I asked a few basic questions: which one do you have; how much; what's the weight; and where are you shipping it from.
NO SURPRISE: The "perp" took cover.

Nathan: It ain't all that simple. First, you have to find out who (s)he really is and where (s)he actually is. I'd give you even money the party in question is out of the country. Then you have to hope and pray they're not using a VNP or worst, TOR, or you won't find-out their true IP address. Then ...
