Re: IC-821H Display and Operational Problems
as original problem seemed to be affected by time,, then hair dryer might help to locate what was working after warm up. Also on multi board radios.. grounds are a common problem. re-plug EVERY cable at least twice, to scratch the pins and remove corrosion. also loosen and re-tighten every board mou...

Re: Alinco DX-70 power amp ?
If you read the ads on FM rigs.. 50 watts draws 11 amps..
Ball park 1/5th of that (10 watts) would draw around 2 amps..
I think safe to say, around 4 amps or so is about right.

Re: Help with AX-190 receiver, low volume and low signal
first off, connect an audio signal to the center pin of the volume control.. and see if the out put is loud. Or just touch the center pin with your finger. if you hear a loud pop then the audio section is ok. Out put from headphone jack for a am portable radio with a capacitor in series for one lead...

best of all worlds. 2 of the same thing. If you have different symptoms on the two radios, start by swapping parts. The symptom should lead you to some section of each radio. work on what seems to be the simplest failure. Once you get one radio working completely , you then have a a parts caddy to u...

Gramatically its correct. If it had low out put power and low audio and maybe scratchy volumn control it would be "80%" with 'except ' notch filter not working.. So all the working parts being 'factory spec'ed except notch filter the it would be "100% except......." It all depends on how you hold yo...

I am guessing but '8 pin' says to me standard vacuum tubes.. So bust up a tube with all 8 pins and de-solder the pins.. and perhaps a tube socket for the other end as needed. forgot.. emery boards.. especially the fine surface type. for cleaning relay contacts, particularly heavy duty contactors with pencil eraser sized contacts. Plain paper works to clean small relay contacts,, use some alcohol to clear sticky stuff.. Isopropyl not denatured..

Re: IC PS125 No output
the zener is likely part of the crow bar circuit.. so just replaceing it wont fix the problem, but would likely just burn up again. I dont have a schematic of the 125 but it must be similar to the 28 volt supply in the HANDBOOK. The zener , I think is to trigger the crow bar circuit causing the DC i...

We would need a picture or drawing of what yours looks like to see how it different or what might be a common plug/socket arrangement. perhaps it's been modified in the past to a different set up.

Re: Antenna tuning
An antenna tuner,, technically a transmitter matching device, just makes the near end of the coax or feeder, appear to the radio output as close to 50 ohms . It does nothing to the antenna. If the antenna is way out of resonance for the frequency desired then its still just an atenuator, no matter w...

Re: New Ham needs Discriminator Tap on Scanner
the purpose is to provide signal to an amplifier and then programm decoder to break down coded type signals. you might not hear anything as the level is way too low for a speaker load of only 4 or 8 ohms.
hook input to an amp or directly to your computer to test.

Re: Can I tune 10,12, 15 and 17 $& 20 m?
If you chart out the lengths you will see some multiples of length. 40 and 15 are related.. as are 10 and 20 or 40 and 80. Simpler antenna would be a fan dipole. one feed point, multiple wires cut to length.. Plus a lot of weight for that many traps.. Think separate antennas. An 40/80 trap dipole,(b...

not familiar with either device. but........ it must be DC and there for 2 wires.. plus and minus.. possibly a third wire which would be frame ground for safety.. figure out the plus side of the panel and plus side of input to controller. wire that and then the other should be minus. if a third wire...

Re: Cleaning and lubing a roller inductor
I would guess electrical grease from electric supply/hardware store, used on aluminum wire connections,, also in auto work.. My suggestion is just rub some on your fingers to make them slightly slick and wipe along the shaft. thus a very thin coat. At a slow speed, not much lub is needed.
